Dear all,
I have been feeling light headed, dizzy and not in balance for the last few days. Its not like the world is spinning or anything, its just like my body is in a constant movement. This is more pronounced while walking, or soon after travelling in the tube. I have had this problem on and off last month. But this time, it seems to go on and on continuously.

I dont seem to suffer an anxiety or anything at the moment.
So I can rule that out to some extent.

I have always had a blood pressure of 140/80, and a moderately high cholesterol level ( even though I am a vegetarian). Is it probably because of that?

One thing I noticed is, when I travel in the tube, holding the bar high above my head, my neck hurts after sometime and I feel like falling down ( but have not had a black out or a real fall).

Please can I hear your opinions.

Thanks Mrs Stressed.
The more I try to relax the more I get stressed.
I tried to close my eyes and relax a wee bit, but the eyes get crossed and pains a lot.
I am fixing up an appointment with the GP to get it sorted.
My friends have asked me not to bother going to the GP, but I dont know what else to do.
How long have you been having your episodes for?

hi kingkong

i get similar feelings - like i'm falling (internally or something?) like i will pass out - but never have. i go through much of my days expecting to pass out 'this will be the day when it happens' etc! its horrible! i also feel like i'm walking on a boat or in a lift? like i'm in a mr soft world -not solid. Do you get this sort of thing too?

Hi Sunday.
Yes. I would describe the feeling exactly like that.
Infact, its more like you feel a constant movement.
Its like when you turn your head, it wouldnt want to stop, or when you lower your head down, it wouldnt want to rise up.
or when sitting in a chair, the head feels like being pulled forward.
Its basically feeling unstable.

Hi KingKong

I would go to the GP as it is clearly causing you problems. That is what they are there for. It could be a multitude of things but I doubt anyone here can diagnose it correctly without seeing you in person. I would go to the doctors.

Thanks Jude.
Fixed up an appointment with the GP next wednesday.
Changed my chair- no improvement. back, shoulder, neck, eyes still hurt and still feeling dizzy.

Had the eyes tested. They said eyes are perfectly normal. SO dizziness is not caused by the vision.

Hello there.

I've been suffering the same thing. The doctor said
It's an inner ear problem Labarynthitis. She gave
Me some Beta Histamine pills and they have helped.
Prior to this my neck and shoulders were killing me
So tense and sore, horrible headaches. I've not had
Any ear pain, just an occasional feeling of fullness in
My ears and oddly very itchy ears!!!
I also get what I can only describe as a vibration or buzz
Through my head that makes me dizzy.
I do have high BP but the doctor said that it would have
To be through the roof to cause symptoms.
I am walking on marshmallow feet, and if I'm walking out of
A lift or off an escalator it's much worse.
Look up Labarythitis and check your symptoms.
Take care luv Tracie xxx

Kingkong,
I had a similar problem with dizziness myself, several years ago. At first my GP diagnosed labryinthitis (although there are no tests for it, they just diagnose it based on the symptoms you give them and my only one was dizziness!) and then an ENT specialist suggested it was vestibular neuronitis, an inner ear infection that would gradually clear on its own. However, my dizziness persisted, sometimes some days were worse than others. I even had spells of vertigo, where the dizziness gets really intense and makes the room spin in a frightening way. It got to the point where I could get these dizzy attacks by just leaning forward in my chair while sitting at my desk.

It finally convinced me to go and see a physiotherapist - since you mentioned having a sore back, shoulder and neck, the problem could well be with overly tight neck muscles. I went to see a physio after suffering from off-on dizziness for almost 2 years without relief and they really sorted me out! If a physio doesn't help you then maybe seeing an osteopath might, but my physio was really very good.

Best wishes
Jumpy

Thanks Tracey, Jude and Jumpy.

Tracey,
Thanks for putting my mind to rest about the BP.
The strange thing with my BP is, the electronic monitors both at home and in the GP clinics show about 140/90.
However, when I had to get myself tested as a part of the job requirements, and was referred to a specific doctor by the company, the doctor first used the electronic monitor. The BP was again 140/90. He said he did not trust the electronic monitor and took his sphygmomanometer and checked manually. The BP was around 130. He said I dont have a high BP and not to trust the electronic monitors and not to go on high BP medications, unless the BP is established by manual checks.

I researched on Labrynthitis and even came across a nice website. It was very informative.

Jumpy,
I will check with the physio. You mentioned about the spells while you were at the desk. I had the exact same situation last week.

Jude,
Thanks for all the support.

I have been feeling a bit better over the weekend.
Last week I avoided the tube travel which gives me the neck and back ache. The aches are still there, the dizziness is still there, but its not anything like what I had last week, which prompted a panic reaction in me.
