Anyone had problems after cannula/IV?

I had a cannula put in my hand about 9 days ago that was in for a few hours.

I have been to the doc 3 times this week as my hand/wrist/forearm is very painful. He thinks I have Phlebitis which is inflammed vein and is sending me for an ultrasound this afternoon.

I am terrified there is a clot in there (which can happen too) - one of my biggest fears is a DVT and I am terrified.

Cannula's are very painful and I hate them!

They left me bruised and sore for a while afterwards and I had them continuously when I was in hospital. I was black and blue where they kept inserting them.

Thanks for your quick reply Nicola. Thats the problem, I am not bruised from this, there is a funny lump near my pain and the doc thinks its the inflammed vein. I just think its a clot and I am doomed :lac:

Oh yes I had them too and what was worse - not to scare you - but because I had so many blood tests and needles in the vein in my arm then they "blew the vein" once when I had a CT scan and my arm inflated like a balloon!

I had the lumps too though and it was nothing sinister
