We all suffer from many forms of anxiety and reading through numerous threads many people suffer from what was for me the first symptom.

So many cannot stand in a queue without anxiety setting in or in my case even if I am being driven in a car I get the same sensation if one stops at a traffic light or there is a build up of traffic and all I think is i wish things would keep moving.
To a lesser extent waiting say to be served in a restaurant has the same effect.
Is it fight or flee syndrome ?

Could it be, when the car is moving there is so much around visually to keep your attention focused outside the body, but when the car stops you become impatient and the mind then focuses internally. You then start to notice physiological changes and the "fight or flight" kicks in.
Just a suggestion.

Maybe it's - your not in control, things are happening that you can't influence, it sounds like, you want to get to where your going ASAP or expect to pay for somthing without queuing because you want to do what you need to do, on your terms and what you can cope with!
I think panic attacks are purely based on too much flight and not fight and it's the fight you can't handle. You can't stand being in a que of any sort for to long because, you need to go ( flight ) if you stand around it's like a fight and you begin to panic! Flight or flight I don't think is a syndrome, it's a defense mechanism for protection!
Its this mechanism which for panic attack sufferers, what's malfunctioning ! It's having the mind control to deal with the fight bit, without walking out / getting out or walking / running away! It's panic in its purest form!
I suffer with this, it's tremendously hard! To your mind these situations are like, keeping your hand on a boiling kettle without taking it off! The difference is ~queuing won't burn you!

Tapping exercises might help in these situations, or headphones with music! Destraction, when I drive now I get that fed up with the - get out get out thoughts - that, I almost fight with myself and think I'm ignoring that thought, I will get there!:winks:

Just answered another post about this, I am unable to drive on my own at the moment due to an fear of traffic jams. I literally start to hyperventilate and feel like getting out of the car. Is this a claustrophobia thing or just a lack of control sorry for hijacking the thread but just curious

Hyper ventilating is by far the worst thing for me as you yourself know.Trouble is I get it every day even at home and sets other things off.

I am not impatient but like to get things done and get annoyed even on the phone if I get fobbed about.Maybe it's just in my nature, but after 25/30 years it isn't much fun.

I think I am much the same and hadn't really thought of it as me being impatient, I like things to be done yesterday and get so anxious if I have to wait for anything.

I can really relate, breathing issues are awful & very distressing! have you tried yoga or herbal things???
It sounds though, like you have text book panic attacks, as I did. Hope you find a way to brake them soon:hugs:

Col I have tried absolutely everything but one specialist in her field said my subconscious won't allow me to get better and I am not getting any younger.

To be quite frank my willpower isn't very strong anymore with years of this., sounds a bit sad but is true. I wish i could meet people with the same or similar anxieties. That would be better than any therapist

You don't have meets over here :weep:
