My wife went to see the ENT this AM. A brief history...

got sick in August (prob sinutitis)
noticed little swollen lymph node side of neck, under ear
had ultrasound and blood work
u/s showed likely reactive node. blood work showed his TSH (so underactive thryoid)
had another u/s of neck, and thyroid. And another blood test
blood test was normal this time
u/s showed aggivated thyroid, likely Hishomotis (underactive thyroid).
lymph node again looked reactive
referred to ENT 6 weeks ago by GP

Over the 6 weeks, felt better. Small lymph node or bump still there.

Today she saw ENT. ENT felt her neck, couldn't feel any lymph nodes. Said what my wife thinks was the node prob wasnt. Said Hishomotos not a big deal, just follow up yearly with GP. Told her she seemed fine, and to come back in a few months if she felt worse again.

That is the good. The part I was unsure of was that she said the second u/s (she only saw the 2nd, not the first) showed a 2cm lymph node. The Dr tried, and couldn't find it.

I had a 2.4cm lymph node last year, and it was pretty easy to feel. I am pretty sure if my wife had this node of 2cm, it must have been inside neck where you cannot feel. I am a bit concern about this. Although she was sick, and I guess the thyroid issue can also cause swollen nodes.

Should I still be worried?

Hey

So I have NO knowledge of lymph nodes so this is a shot in the dark. BUT I think my point is valid none the less.

Ive been told many times by many people that if a dr is worried then you should be. if they are not worried then , well you get the picture, you shouldn't be either.

secondly, ive heard that nodes can swell just from getting a cold or something so if the dr couldn't find it, maybe it has gone down again?

I have been told I have/had sinutitus/problems with my ears but the drs say or seem to think my issues are more anxiety related. So anyway, yeah don't panic until the doctors say its a big problem.

If your wife feels worse at any point, just go back to the GP. Doctors have to take every visit seriously, its more than there job is worth.

if you like go to another dr for second opinion (I mean only really if you are REALLY worried which I don't think you should be) I went to 3 different doctors to help reassure me. Each one fully examined me and didnt just look at my notes.

So, I hope this helps a bit, not an expert just an expert in GIVING advice and not listening when its given to me, true story.

Hi,
I had an ENT appt this September.
I have about 8 lymph nodes behind my ear and in my neck. They were all well under 1cm, soft and squashy. The specialist found them straight away and very easily, with little direction from me. :)
So, I'm willing to guess that if your wide had a lymph node as big as 2cm, it would be easy to feel unless it had gone down between now and then.

My lymph nodes are stubborn and haven't returned to normal size since February (which is why I was sent to an ENT) but most peoples Lymph nodes should go down again pretty quickly, once the underlining infection or illness that caused it to swell has cleared up.

And yes, Thyroid issues can cause lymph nodes to swell.
