i'm going to be seeing a therapist next month who combines CBT, hynotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy, EFT and EMDR to try and treat my symptom of constant dizziness/off balance feeling which is driving me mad. she seems really confident that she can make me better (but in my experience all therapists think that they can cure you!), i really want to be able to believe that it will work or at least make a noticable difference to how i feel, but i don't want to get my hopes up and then it not work.
Please anyone who has had a real difference made to their symptoms by any of these therapies, can you reassure me?

hi rossie

my best piece of advice is to go with an open mind and go with the treatment and see if it can help. I have had EMDR , EFT and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) but not all from the same therapist - they tend to be specialised in one area (especailly the EMDR). ive heard of hypnotherapy and EFT being combined but not with the EMDR - this is very specialised and needs to be done by someone fully trained in this technique.

All the above therapies I found to be effective - but i had them over a period of years from different specialists in the NHS.

give it a go - you have nothing to lose - just go with what feels right for YOU - and keep an open mind.

Hi rossie

I had one session of hypno which is nice and a bit of EFT or TFT as they call it sometimes. You feel a bit weird tapping differnet points on your body eg above your eyebrow, below your eye, your chin, collar bone etc etc but it seems to help - weird!!! good luck and hope it all goes ok. love wenjoy x

Hi Rossie,

I have had CBT, EFT and hypnotherapy in the past. The CBT didn't work for me at all. Hypnotherapy can be quite good if you can afford the sessions or get it on the NHS - I had to bale out after three sessions due to the cost, but it helped quite a bit before I found what finally knocked my anxiety on the head. EFT can also help, and it is something you can do at home once you have learned the technique. EMDR is, as Darkangel says a specialised treatment and I have no experience of it.

Best thing is to go along and have your first session and see how you go.
If you feel better then you are winning![^]

Thanks :). The woman I am seeing has a background of psychology even though she uses alternative techniques, and she was recommended to me, so she should be good and she says she uses a mixture of the different techniques as appropriate to each person
