OK this is a weird one - around 1995ish i developed a fear of being sick - I avoided anyone who was feeling sick or had been sick and my anxiety levels were pretty high.

In 1996 I managed to get a sick bug whilst working with children - it was not pleasant and I have been fortunate in that I have not had any sick bugs since.

So, scrolling on to 2001 and I developed bulimia - yes that is bloody odd considering I had/have a fear of being sick. My emetophibia seemed to go (I thought I had cured myself - though that wasn't the cause of my bulimia).

Recently I have become so anxious about becoming ill - my sister thinks it is stupid and I realise that it is pretty odd but the difference between vomiting and making yourself sick is that when you make yourself sick you have control, plus you dont have the horrible tummy feeling before hand.

With all the news of norovirus I am becoming obsessive about hand washing and anyone I see I ask if they have had a sick bug. I have bought hand sanitizer and the thought of becoming ill terrifies me. I also take vitamin c for my immune system (I swear by it - Ive been in a car with my family when they have all had bad colds and didn't catch it) - but this whole norovirus thing is freaking me out.

Not sure if anyone can resonate with my insane waffle but I just had to get that off my chest. Phewwwww

Hi skylace22 - there are plenty threads you might want to look at..... if you search on key words such as Emetophobia (& other "key" words that I'm sure you can think of but would rather not....) then lots of threads come up......here are some examples:

by the way - I relate to how you're feeling but I couldnt possibly make myself sick ever so we do differ in that respect. I once read about someone who took an emetic, i.e to make them sick but they fought so hard it didnt work. So that failed to cure them. Just reading about that tactic was bad enough.
In the end I think you have to find ways of living with it since the viruses & other causes of sickness are part of life. Distraction is what I have to use. Anyway, take a look at these threads as I think you'll find lots of people you relate to & perhaps some tips too. Good luck.
