6 weeks on citalopram - doctor changing medication

I have been on citalopram 20mg for 6 weeks and have seen little improvement. My doctor has switched me to sertraline 50mg today but I'm worried that I've not given citalopram long enough or if upping the dosage would have been better than changing already?

Hi Katey

Yes they could have given you a little longer on Citalopram and it may have started to help but then again it might not be the right drug for you if you haven't had any improvement yet. I was also on Citalopram, I stayed on it for about 8 weeks but didnt feel much better so I was switched over to Sertraline.

You may feel a bit crappy for a bit but it wasnt like starting the whole process again for me and having all the side effects of starting anti depressants again. The Sertraline kind of picked up where the Citalopram stopped and gradually I did start to feel a bit better.

Thank you. That's reassuring to hear. I think I will change over and hope the side effects don't start up again too badly.
