Hi all would appreciate any sort of replies to this..
Well, I feel like a bit of a pratt cos yesterday I felt ok (apart from coming on and having the usual awful cramps) and was trying to give others advice.
Then last night it all went wrong , had a row with my boyfriend, who locked me in on the way out to stop me locking him out; then came the most terrible stomach cramps. It felt like a mixture of period pains and trapped wind (lower end-sorry to be crude).
So I took some Ibuprofen for the period pains, which eased but the windy cramps just got worse and worse, I couldn't stay still, couldn't ease it and before I knew it I was having a full blown PA.
So mum comes down in her pyjamas, yells at me that its just a panic attack 'what am I supposed to do?'(my stomach was agony but by this point i was more concerned with the fact I was going to faint) at which point I threw her out before she woke baby up (who id spent over an hour getting to sleep).
So there I was at square one on my own, in agony, and terrified.
it took a good hour to get to sleep, which I figured was the only way to stop panicking, but when baby woke at 4.30 it was still painful. Have had the pains on and off today, too, just praying they don't get to what they were last night.

Anyway, sorry for the essay, but does anyone get any symptoms like this with a period? I'm scared I've got some terrible gynaecological problem?

Please help....

Hey Carly, sorry you feel terrible.

My periods used to be totally awful, just how you described. As if my lower half was being slowly ripped away. I'd feel awful and faint and bloated. My doctor always reassured me that this was perfectly normal, some girls just have worse periods than other, and that being overly stressed doesn't help.

I remember taking a lot of Ibuprofen and have a hot water bottle with me. My best advice would be to curl up on a sofa, if you can get the baby to sleep (!), and try to nap to something naff on the TV.

Again, I'm sorry you're so stressed from this. I do really hope you get better. Drink lots of warm water with lemon for the crampy wind.

Hope you get well,
xo

Thanks,

The 'other' pains felt like wind because I could feel it kind of gurgling around. And I had eaten a lot of Pringles, which have a bad effect on me for some reason. But whats worrying me is that it was so painful and is still there to some extent today.
Pathetic, I know.:(

Thanks Jodie,

I wondered whether it could be IBS as I get (ahem) wind quite a lot, especially when Im anxious, but can it really be that painful?

Hi carly,

it does sound like IBS as I get that and it can be agony, to the point where I can be doubled up in pain, it is like contractions in your stomach which come and go, ask at the chemist there are a lot of remedies for it available over the counter for it.

Take care

The 'gurgling' you mentioned... I had that in March, I think. It's turned out to be gastritus from stress. Maybe you should go back to your doctor, ask if they can check. All they do is feel around your stomach. If it feels hard behind your belly button when you push in.

I had drunk a lot of coke the day before and thought it was that. You should get it checked out in case you have a stomach ulcer. And it does make you quite gassy, for lack of a better word!

Hope it helps :)

Oh no now I think I've got a stomach ulcer!

No I dont think I have I don't get a lot of heartburn and if I had an ulcer I would get it all the time really bad wouldn't I ?

Not all the time, but it could be a symptom.
I wish I hadn't said anything, I don't want to make you worry :( It just sounds to me that you have what I had. A dodgy stomach from stress...

But I hope you feel better soon,

I suffer fron IBS and get terribly bloated. Both bloating & trapped wind can be very painful hun.

This link might help.:D

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/NMPcms.php?nmppage=ibs)

Tis worth getting it checked out if it carries on though.

As for the effect of the Pringles ask a member on here called Piglet as she is the Pringle Queen! LOL (Sorry Piglet!) [:O][Oops!]

I have IBS symptoms too. I get a lot of lower and upper GI gas. Also experience abdominal tension and tightness. Sometimes I get a burning sensation after eating, but only when I feel extremely tense. I must be careful of the foods I eat. No tomatoes or citrus fruit, limited wheat products, no beans or other rough vegetables and no dairy. I have lost a lot of weight because of this problem. However, I find that when I manage to relax, the symptoms are far less severe.

I have IBS too with pretty much all the symptoms you describe. It is very closely linked to stress. I always feel a lot worse with it during my period. I saw a gastrointestinal specialist last year who told me that this is very common.

I have found that eating a lot of wheat based products during this time can make bloating and wind a lot worse so maybe try cutting down on bread, pasta etc.

Good luck - hope you are feeling better soon. :D

Lol Pips - don't know where I get this reputation for Pringles for at all [:I][:I]:D.

Seriously though a friend of mine told me pringles have monosodium glutamate (MSG) in them which an awful lot of people can't tolerate. I must admit that I always feel sicky after chinese food which often has very high levels of this MSG but not too bad with pringles. However I must say even though I joke about Pringles I really dont eat them that often anymore.[:I]:D

It does sound like you have Ibs and if it carries on then just mention it to your doctor to be extra sure and to know how to treat it. Again as others have said it is very common around period time. I have a friend who has this every single time - she is doubled over with pain but its not period pain its a different trapped wind type pain.

I had Ibs for 3 months last year and it was not at all funny :(

By the way have you made it up with your mum yet - even if she wasn't alot of help when she came, she must love you to come rushing down in her pj's!!!:):):)

I suffer with IBS, and bad period pains and PMS (periods got much worse after birth of my 2nd child although is starting to improve, but he is 5 now!).

I also find I get really badly constipated before my period (for at least a couple of days before) and I have those awful cramps until I manage to empty my bowels - usually about 2 days into period. Sometimes the cramps wake me up at night.

Defintely my symptoms are far worse around the time of my period, as is my mood (very low) so things always seem far worse.

Hope you are feeling better soon

No I haven't made up with my mum yet my sister said she was drunk when she came round:( and havent made up with my boyfriend either. Its my birthday tomorrow:(

The first day i do get a period is TERRIBLE! PAIN PAIN PAIN!!! stomach cramps, leg cramps{theyre the worse, but 16 hot baths later and 12 refills of the hot water bottle im usually ok and can get outta bed} but i do also get bad wind and constipation whilst im on aswell. its very strange! anybody would think i have some serious illness every month {or 2 in my case sometimes!}

</td id="quote"></tr id="quote"></table id="quote"> Hi Carly,, i hope since you wrote ur message that your feeling better, there are several reasons why you can be suffering with these symptoms,,, 1) u say u have a baby, often the body needs time to re adujst since giving birth, also your hormones can take a long long time to get back to normal. Bowel spasms and periods go hand in hand, often women experience irratable bowel syndrome when they have their period which is like griping sharp pains, bloating of the stomach, and oh not forgeting the dreaded wind, do u have any gynea problems carly? there is a relatively new tablet on the market that helped me, as a suffer of endometriosis, and really severe IBS, which i add carly is loves stress,,, IBS reacts to stressful situations,,,,, the tablet my doctor recommended to me was alverine citrate ( also known as spasmanol) taken twice daily it really helped me as it relieves the symptoms of IBS, but research then found that it relaxes the smooth muscle of the pelvis, so in turn helped with period pain,,, hope this helps carly

take care

Thankyou Becci- yeah strange but my period pains seem to extend almost to my ankles, sometimes an ache, sometimes shooting pains. Not nice is it?

Thanks Karen- I haven't been to the docs cos I hear you have to have the symptoms for 12 weeks before you can get a diagnosis of IBS although I'll go if I feel I need a prescription, but I'm going to look up spasmanol and maybe mention it when I go so, yeah, thankyou for the info.Very much appreciated.

Period pains are weird! I get them in my lower abdomen, in my back and even in my hips and legs!
The wind problems are common too, [:I]as are constipation and even diarrhoea when you first come on (sorry to be graphic)! It's down to muscle contractions.

Don't forget your most likely to be more stressed out when pre menstrual and hence more likely to panic! I've been there, last Wednesday afternoon to be precise! I felt like I couldn't breathe and had a teribble sense of unreality which I always get when I'm on! I spent all afternoon panicking and ruminating about what could be the matter with me, until I snapped myself out of it!

I really don't think your problem is serious from what you have said , but if your problems persist see your doctor!

My goodness! Finally found out what I've had ever since I was little. Looked at the no more panic info section on IBS and all my symptoms are there lol Never knew that one of the contributing factors could be stress though. No wonder I've always been a worrier! Hope everything worked out with your boyfriend Carly and hope you had a good birthday.

Thanx Pips, Charlie and Meg! Might be able to relieve some of those symptoms now.
