Hi there,

I'm a 22 year old male worrying about bowel cancer. Symptoms are relatively limited but are:

- Small amount of red blood when wiping (not in stool itself)
- Dampness of bottom area (this may be sweat as it shows as a line on underwear)
- Some discomfort when wiping
- Small lump on inside of anus, felt when wiping
- Occasional 'shooting' pain in anus.

Those who I've told tell me that my symptoms aren't to worry about, especially at a young age of 22. Likely piles, or as the result of wiping so much (checking for blood!).

Anyone else had such symptoms? I went to the doctor with an unrelated issue which I thought may be prostate related and he laughed at me telling me there's no chance at 22. This reassured my of that issue, but I don't want to go back again about this when deep down I know it's nothing serious.

Thanks and season's wishes.

I have most of the symptoms and I just have a hemorrhoid. Bowel cancer symptoms are much different.

It's VERY unlikely you will have bowel cancer at such a young age.. Don't forget that those symptoms could mean other things. Like your first symptom you mentioned for example, could be from just straining.

It sounds like piles to me, especially if it is bright red blood.

I agree, that definitely sounds like piles to me, I won't tell you not to worry as I know it's hard not to but I really think piles will be all it is (especially if your wiping a lot more) What I learnt in CBT is to make a for and against list for each of my symptoms and that usually helped me to think rationally about it and helped to calm me down.
