I used to get itchy eyes with hay fever but that's not really much help to you, sorry.

It could be an allergy - you can buy eye drops for itchy eyes. Try that and see if it helps. If the optician did a thorough exam of your eyes, there's not likely to be anything obvious wrong.

If it continues and is causing you problems, either mention it to your GP or go back and ask the optician.
