plz help...changing from citalopram to escitalopram

hello guys,
please help me on this as im getting worried keep thinking.
ok i was on citalopram 20mg for three years,its stopped working so the doc changed me to 5mg escitalopram.
i stopped the citalopram right away,and started the escitalopram right away.
my question is,do u think il get withdrawel effects from the citalopram as i just swapped them over?im just worried about this?i know they are very similar drugs,but am still worried...its day three of me being on escitalopram....PLEASE POST ME UR ADVICE OR HELP.

Hi there.

I am on Escitalopram for years. The reason I was put onto Escitalopram was because I could not tolerate Citalopram. What reason did your doctor give for changing them ? They are supposed to be very similar with Escitalopram being more tollerable in the start up period so I wouldnt have thought you would have any withdrawal. I know Escitalopram works for me and a few friends I know so I wish you success with it.

How are you now Kate? I've been on Citalopram 3 times and foudn it horrible to start up on but I am also on Escitalopram this time around and it's been so much easier to get onto and I'm getting really better on it. I've been on it about 9 weeks now gradually increasing to 10mg's (:

hey its been about a week now,iv gone up to 10mg.on the leaflet it says u should be on 10mg for g.a.d ,maybe u should up to 10 now? x

how much mg escit did u go on to?did u get no bad effects?and do they help more than cit?

I started on 10mg and went upto 20. Honestly I'm not sure if I noticed any difference. i'm back on Cit again and feel great but Ive heard people say weight gain is worse on Cit than Escit. Ive considered changing to Escit but my doctor is sick of me changing meds. I felt fine on Escit to be honest only sides I experienced was I felt like a porn star but I get that on Cit as well
