Hi
I'm new to the forum as from today. I have recently started taking beta blockers and citalopram again for panic disorder after a years break off of them. I used to take 40mg propranolol and 10mg cipralex but my new doctor has prescribed me 80mg slow release propranolol and 20mg citalopram. I have had to cut down the citalopram to 10mg because the side effects were so bad and i'm too scared to try the propranolol incase they are too strong. I am taking some old 40mg propranolol I had left over from last year. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Hi phobe and welcome,
I have taken citalopram for a number of years on and off, i always find it better to start on 10 mg then up them to 20mg 2 to 3 weeks later,i found starting on 20mg gave me bad side affects also.
Hope that helps

Hi Phoebe
I was on 20mg of Citalopram for over 2 years and felt sorted enough to wean off them. That was a disaster so back I went on and after an inexplicable deterioration after a good winter (go figure THAT out) am up to 40mg and it's not touching it. I feel I'm in for the long haul, but have read depression is meant to run in 6 to 18 month cycles, with or without meds, so feel a bit confused by it.
No side effects I can think of though, but I have been putting on weight.

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I looked through the threads about propanolol and couldn't see anything about the slow release ones. Maybe they are new? As for the citalpopram I have been feeling really awfull but I just keep telling myself its the tablets and that i will feel better eventually. The thing is I'm debating whether I should start on the full 20mg dose or stick to breaking them in half and taking 10mg? I didn't consult my doctor before halving the dose, I did it off my own back because I felt rubbish. I feel a bit cheated that he didnt give me the cipralex I used to have at my old doctors. I might go back and ask for them as I know they helped when I took them before.

Did he say why he took you off Cipralex? If there was no good reason - which should be explained to you - he should give you what works for you. My doc. is great like that. Discusses everything, time no object.
Hi Phoebe

Hi and welcome.I am new to all this to.I am on citalopram, been on them for years.I managed to wean myself of them for 3 months but then had to go back on them.I started at 40 mg but the side affects were so bad my doctor took it down to 20 mg.The side affects settled after two weeks.I am also on propranolol prolonged release 80mg.I dont get any side affects from these.see your doctor again if you are not happy.
It is hard as I have a phobia about taking pills. My panic attacks all started from this so I associate pills and panic attacks.
Any sort of new medication and I automatically think Im going to get all the side affects.I know how you feel and You will get some great advice from this site.;)

Hi
Im new here too - haven't taken meds yet - trying the counselling first. One thing they recommended was to set small objectives and try and achieve them. Helps with the depression but not sure about the anxiety - guess thats another thing. Hope things go ok for u

Hi
Thanks again for your replies. You have all made me feel really welcome. I am slowly reading through the forum and finding lots of topics i can relate to. I feel lucky to a certain extent because this is my second time on tablets after a years break in between so I know I can and will get better this time. I stopped taking the medication last year because I fell pregnant and had no choice but to stop the tablets. I had 2 (I'll say anxiety attacks because they were panic attacks that I managed to control and stop) whilst I was pregnant. My pregnancy was happy and healthy and up untill now i have felt fine. Maybe its hormonal I dont know?
