I had a dentist appointment this morning, just for a check up but he said he wanted to do X Ray's  Does anyone else find this really difficult. I hate that plate in my mouth, for one thing it hurts and another, I feel as if I am either going to choke or be sick. I kept pulling it back out again and he was getting a bit abrupt with me saying it had to be done. I was almost in tears! I finally managed it and he said it would only be 5 seconds! I counted and it was 8 :D Anyway, I need a filling :scared15: I am being referred to another dentist 30 miles away because they do sedation and are used to dealing with 'anxious' people :D.

Hi Annie,
Is there not another dental practice nearer to you?
What a unpleasant dentist. Talk about care!!!
I am nervous at the dentist, they know what my meds are, but
I have always been treated well. And asked continually if I am ok xx

My Dentist is only 3 mile away but the specialist clinic that deals with people with anxiety and phobias is 30 mile away. They will offer sedation for all procedures so if I need anything doing I am referred there. I used to be fine at the dentist but a couple of year ago my dentist couldn't get my tooth out and after 90 mins of trying had to stitch my gum and refer me to the hospital to have it done with GA. they only gave me a small amount thinking it would take 15 mins. It ended up taking 1 hour and I woke up in the theatre while they were still pulling the tooth!

Oh heck, that must have been a nightmare.
I had a similar thing that happened with a wisdom tooth years ago.
I was in the dentist chair for 3 hours.
They cut my gum and stitched up after, i did not feel any pain untill the next
day, and i had to have time off from work. The dentist I go to now will numb
my gums for cleaning,if i feel fragile

I don't like the xray plates either. I have a really small mouth, so sometimes they give me the children's size instead, which is a little bit more comfortable. Still hurts though!

Afternoon Annie,i know how you feel,l had to have on more than one occasion a plate with stuff like pollyfilla to take impressions of my mouth for a new plate of false teeth.I always panic because he says he has to hold it there for 45/55 secs to get it to set.I'm always frightened it will set to hard and they will not be able to get the tray out.he has to pull hard when he does take it out.he says I can't swallow I have to dribble all the gundge out of my mouth.have you told your dentist how you feel,I told my dentist and still tell him every time I see him and he is very understanding.have you not got anyone that you could not take with you even to hold your hand if needed.please take care and look after yourself.x

Mine was an xray plate Jean. No one is allowed in the room with you when you have X Rays. The dentist knows how I feel but I guess he is right, it has to be done.

hey well done! I had a hard time too with the x ray, I kept asking the guy if he was sure it wouldn't get caught on my head!
Honest I let a little kid go before me and watched him get it done before I worked up the nerve to do it! I felt so silly afterwards as it really was soo easy and fast!
It was one of the big x ray machine that go around your head.

I am fine with the machine that goes round your head, it is the one with the plates in your mouth that I can't stand.
