Well after a really few bad months of HA brought on by flu and chest infections I ended up with panic attacks and spiralling anxiety, was in a really bad place and getting out of control
I have been on prozac and mirtazapine in the past for bouts of depression and anxiety and really didnt want to go down that route again as I felt like I was just putting a plaster on the problem and not actually healing anything, felt very temporary and almost waiting for the next time I crack up
I decided to try and find a hypnotherapist and see if that could help, thank god i did, I found a very experienced lady who lives five minutes away from me, she specialises in anxiety too and I am happy to say after four sessions with her, i am back to my old self and feel so confident that Im not going back to my dark days again....it might not be for everyone, but just think....it is the power of our minds that can make us feel so shitty and ill, if you can harness that and get your mind working on your side again you can get better...its true, i am!

I'm happy to hear that you are better, and that there is hope for us all! Did you ever try CBT? If so how did it compare? I have a free consultation next week but am also very interested in the hypnotherapy.

I am just looking into hypnotherapy I found a lady who does it just near me at 45 quid a session , how do u know how many sessions to have ? It is expensive for me but if it means I get to enjoy life again it will be worth it

I had CBT for self confidence issues a while back, and although it did help a little I found I was getting back into old habits quite easily.....I found hypnotherapy more empowering and it felt so much more natural and gentle for me.
I trusted my therapist to know how many sessions I needed and it took four over three weeks, it did cost 60 quid per session but in hindsight it was worth every penny and she did do gp referrals and bupa but I went directly to her with a free consultation to begin with
She has been practising since 1994 and also did EMDR on me for my anxiety which means eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, something to do with what your eyes do when you dream...dunno how it worked, but it did...no panic attacks or night sweats since!
I also know how to relax now and she made 4 cds for me to use when i like, these have helped whenever I cant relax or sleep
Just make sure whoever you get is on the official register and specialises in your issue....if youre in the Leicester area inbox me if anyone wants the address of my lady
Would be interested to know how you get on lily and Mrs worried ....good luck :)))

Your feedback sounds amazing! May I ask how you were able to relax for your sessions? Do you take any medication to control anxiety/physical symptoms? I had a consultation for hypnotherapy a while back but just couldn't relax enough to concentrate. I do have social anxiety and panic around going out etc so maybe this wouldn't work for me?

I did hypnotherapy and it was amazing. My anxiety came back, I went again and it really helped again. It doesn't seem to keep my anxiety away permanently and I can't afford to keep going back as it's really expensive but it's the best relief I have found.

I've downloaded lots of self hypnosis things on my kindle, they really help, I look forward to the evening when I can do them. My hypnotist also taught me the tapping but I haven't used it much so reading this has reminded me that I need to do it properly every day, I am going to give it a shot.

Have inboxed you the details mrsnobody :)
Jayjoe, I think if you can find the right therapist, one who specialises in anxiety and social phobias it would actually be a great help :) If you want the website details so you can check it out let me know, might give you an idea of whats available:)

Wow, I'm really jealous. I went to hypnotherapy and I freaked out so much I wouldn't let him hypnotise me. It makes me anxious just thinking about it. I'm so pleased to hear it worked for you guys though - hopefully there are others who will see this and give it a go. Maybe I will try it again one day.

Am sorry it didn't work for you Lilharry. I am thinking of giving it a go myself. May have to take a Diazepam to feel relaxed enough first as I will be trying too hard to make it work otherwise

Hows everyone doing?
I think it really depends on the therapist and getting one who specialises in anxiety I would imagine is quite important
Ive had a few real twitchy anxious days this week and I just get my special cds out that she did for me and they work :)
How did you get on hypo?

Hypo

I have been twice now.

She hypnotised me to not look at my tongue for two weeks to see how I get on. I lasted 5 days and was so proud and didn't want to look. Until I got a taste of blood in my mouth which made me panic then I looked and ruined it

I have been more calmer, BUT, she was honest with me and said I also need a lot of uncovering work and therapy as my HA comes from a deep place due to my childhood.

That sounds really positive Hypo, I hope you continue to see benefits from your treatment. I didnt see maximum benefit until after the second session, by then I felt more relaxed and at ease with the lady which obviously youre not going to necessarily be able to do the first time you meet someone anyway.

I didn't go very deep as I do panic when asked to relax.

She is a great woman and we talk as well so I am kind of getting counselling thrown in too :) She asked me a question which made me think, she asked me what my life would be like without HA and I said "lovely" but then we went deeper with that and I realised that actually, the thought of NOT having it scares me deeply too, so we are trying to pinpoint why and work on that.

I do need more than three sessions but I am enjoying it, the just talking to a stranger about it helps a lot and the questions she asks makes me really question things.

While I did look at my tongue I went five days without doing so with no compulsions either. I was checking around 40 times a DAY so I still think I have done very well.

I think everyone should try a few sessions, if nothing else it helps give you relaxation skills and as we know, anxiety and relaxation can't co-exsist. It can be hard for us to really relax, but like everything it is a skill you need to learn.

I couldnt agree more about hypnotherapy giving you the skills to relax, I didnt even realise how tense I was until she tried to get me to relax! Im not saying the anxiety has gone completely but I do feel more empowered and in control, and Ive had no panic attacks at all since then which is fantastic. Im still getting annoying pins and needles feelings down one side but Im pretty confident that they will improve or at least not kill me in the mean time
