Hi

I've suffered with GAD for over a year now. I've had CBT and am better as a result. However I still suffer from panic attacks when I see images of or have contact with my ex girlfriend. The therapist provided me with some techniques to help cope with seeing my ex but I'm still very anxious about seeing her. Anyway tomorrow I have been invited out for a friends birthday but I know my ex will be there. My question is do I push through my anxiety and face her. Or do I avoid going?

Without more information it is difficult for anyone to give their opinion.

It's difficult to know. Sometimes it's good to challenge yourself, and a confidence boost when you discover you can cope. Other times it's just too much to cope with, and can lead to disappointment if you don't manage.

How confident do you feel in the techniques suggested by your therapist? Do you think they are enough to prevent a panic attack? Could you go for just a short time?
