I've been suffering palpitations daily for a long time now, but only now have I discovered a possible root cause! I may well have a large hiatal hernia which is to he confirmed in 2 days. It tends to leave me gasping for air, palpitating and lightheaded as though nless I take a deep breath I will faint.

My questions: Can all these problems be caused by stimulating the vagus nerve? If I remove the hernia will my symptoms improve? Can the vagus nerve trigger heart attacks(?!) And finally what could damage the vagus nerve?

Sorry, so many questions so little time!

Someone posted this the other day and I found it very useful. It talks about the Vagus Nerve and the relation between the stomach and the heart.

That's interesting, and would explain all my problems if my hernia shows up. The only part I don't like is... "fatal." oO I had a look at the wiki and it mentions angina as a symptom. Isn't that dangerous?!
