My first real job, I have almost no supervision and it's difficult but rewarding, but at the same time I'm often incapable of working for days because of insomnia. I've tried to quietly inform our Chief Technical Officer, the closest thing day to day I see to management, that this is happening but there's not much he can do. Basically he's just told me not to come in when I'm incapable of working.
It's a small firm, we don't have a human resources department and the policy for everything is "don't be stupid".
I have no idea how much noise I should be making, where do I draw the line between a level of professionalism in letting people know I'm ill and looking like I'm saying I'm not capable of doing my job? Where should I draw the line in taking time off because I believe that I might be dangerous at work and only being in work for two thirds of the week?
