Hi

Please can someone help me? Last night i woke up suddenly startled i had a real sense of confusion like i wasn't my self, this freaked me out big time and i had a major panic attack, i felt as if i was not in control and my thoughts were taking over my brain, i was getting funny feelings in my head as well, i was contemplating calling 999, as i was so scared.
I finally dropped off after shaking badly from the adreniline.
But woke up this morning feeling quite the same, bad gnawing in my stomach, and a not with it feeling, not as bad as last night though.

I am terrified that i am losing my mind or that i am about to have a stroke or brain annyersym,

I wasnt having a bad yesterday but feel like poo today.

So scared that im not in control of my thoughts / brain.

I understnd that anxiety can cause derealisation, but waking up in the middle of the night with these feelings is it normal ?

Thanks in advance

Claire

Hi

I have had this before exactly the same as you, but im still alive, as the day wears on you will start feeling better, its a combination of anxiety , panic, sleepiness.

I was late up this morning, my daughter woke me on her way to school, god i jumped up in a panic and started racing around, getting my son up for school, i felt faint and so panicky. I only feel a bit better now.

Depersonalisation is your brain slowing down to stop any more stress, its a good thing it will wear off.

Take care suzanne

this feeling is scarey, i get it too and it feels like im looking at the world from behind a window. it comes and goes but you are not going crazy. it is more distressing during the night and ive had a full blown panic attack in the night because of it. try not to worry. you are not alone.

Hi Claire, I have suffered with this on many occassions and it is very frightening but quite normal, as for thinking you may be going mad you are certainly not, people that are mad do not realise that they are, so you have no worries their.

Take care,

Hi there
Sorry you are having such a rough time.

I feel like this in the morning too (and late at night). It's horrible and I really really thought I was losing my mind or had some horrible brain illness making me go mad.

It's a common symptom from anxiety I'm told. It's really scary tho. I'm reading Claire Weekes at the mo and it's helped me (along with this site) no end. I'd really recommend it to you - especially for the reassurance about losing your mind xxxx

I have woken with anxiety but not derealisation. But I have read several posts here and know that other people have. It is not unusual at all.

Anxiety and adrenaline can have horrid effects on you. When you are feeling panic its hard to remember that its a hormone making you feel these things. (Its even hard to remember your own advice that you've given to other people. lol)

Your body goes through a lot when you have a PA. Feeling rough afterwards is normal. There's leftover adrenaline and stress, and it effects your head, digestive system and so many other things. Try to rest well and take care of yourself til your body feels better.

I have been away on my hols of late and i found i suffered this feeling a lot in the frist week of being there!Im sure the heat may have made the feeling worse. And also being so far a way from home made me a little on edge so i noticed it more.I thought it was the meds making me feel this way!
Sometimes i feel like im going mad as well as do a lot of people on here.

Normal for anxiety and panic sufferers and does go as you improve..

Hi mate,
first off, let me reassure you that I TOTALLY know how you feel. I'm 26 now and I had my first real bout of anxiety four years ago. The panic attacks were fairly rare but after a little while I found that I felt entirely detatched from reality and was convinced that I was damaged and that I'd stay that way forever. I didn't! DP is completely normal, but if you've never experienced it before it can be absolute hell, so I really feel for you bud. I remember describing it to my CBT worker at the time as like watching an episode of peep-show rather than real life, like I was somehow stuck behind a camera and that nothing was real. As it turns out, this is merely your brain's way of trying to give you some release, ironically! See, if you found yourself at a crimescene or at a road traffic accident site, you'd want to leave straight away wouldn't you, so as not to see something unpleasant? Well, DP is exactly the same as this, it's almost like your mind is trying to escape an unpleasant situation and frustratingly it can make you feel worse. I currently have a minor case of DP at the minute, but because I've experienced it before it's not as bad so believe me man, it WILL go in time. I didn't think it would either at the time, but it did and it will again. Honestly, you're not going mad, I've been there and it will get better.
Best wishes matey,
Greg.
