Seen a post on this but it was from a while back, this lump drives me insane with panic and sheer burning terror feeling...

I found a lump under my left arm about a month ago, now its not armpit area, more to the side of my chest, and it only aggrivates me a day or two after drinking... here is when it happens

Friday night 4-6 cans of 4% larger
saturday night 6-8 cans of 4% larger
sunday maybe 2-3 cans 4% larger

monday / tuesday i get a dull ache and it dosent really go away until later part of the week,

now the worst bit, two people who where in school with me have died from lymphoma, and this has acclerated the feeling of terror and painc

so much so i visted my GP, she examined the lump and said it was a fibreous lump, i forgot to mention to her its only gets sore after drinking heavily on the weekends....she told me its nothing serious, but i still get worried

i know i drink to much, but this seems to take away the worry that i have something serious, i have a 3yr old child and i have found myself crying just by looking at there photo's and thinking i'm not going to be around for them

i have suffered with health anxiety for a long time and really need some
opinions on how to tackle my demon

I would ask her to refer you to a specialist simply because the pain gets worse after drinking.
Can't do any harm to get it looked at or maybe even just mention the alcohol part to her.

Hi I have had very similar fear to you over the past months.

From what I believe and have been told is that the pain from alcohol would come straight away from drinking alcohol and not the day after. Has the lump grown at all? Is it hard? I think if the doctor has had a good feel of it and is fine then you are ok- i think many doctors know of a bad lump when they feel one.

If you are worried, ask for a full set of bloods to be done. If it is lymph (which im sure it wont be) something will come up to suggest further testing. Also, sugest to the doc to have a chest xray. Although lymph can be anywhere in the body nodes, if the lump/pain is situated near your chest this might be able to give you some reasurrance. I have had similar pain/soreness in armpit and all over body when drinking alcohol but bloods are all ok and chest x-ray was fine.

I am sure you have nothing to worry about but do go and talk to your doctor.

I know the drinking makes you feel better at the time, but it is probably making your health anxiety worse. Have an alcohol free weekend and see how you feel. Also, I would go back to the doctor and explain your fears so that she can talk them through with you and reassure you. There's no point worrying yourself sick over this. At the end of the day, the lump is going to be there whether you're worried about it or not, so you might as well stop worrying because the only thing that worrying achieves is to make you feel bad.
