Hi all there is an open writing competition in the No Painic newsletter which I've entered. The theme is animals so I thought I would write a poem as a tribute for our beloved cats.
A Tribute to Sparky & Heathcliff.
I couldn’t believe we could lose two beautiful cats in a year,
The pain, the sorrow and the fear,
Firstly Heathcliff a gorgeous rescue ginger kitten,
With whom we were both totally smitten,
He went our for a wander and a play,
But he never did return that day,
We hunted for weeks high and low,
But little ‘Heathy’ did not show,
We then had a call to say he’d been killed in a bad way,
By another animal hunting there prey,
Poor little mite,
He must have had such a terrible fright.
Just recently we lost our other cat Sparky,
A beautiful, proud British Blue,
So very young, loyal and true,
A battle with cancer, he did fight,
So very hard day and night,
Was so unfair to see him suffer,
He was just becoming rougher and rougher,
In the end he became so weak,
The best option was to have him put peacefully to sleep,
The guilt we feel,
Is so unreal,
Even though it was for the best,
All those what if’s never give us a rest.
We remember our special boys,
Happy memories of them playing with their toys,
So non judgemental loving and true,
We both really do love and miss you,
As I finish this poem with tears in my eyes,
Saying to you our final goodbyes.
Hopefully we’ll meet you again,
Both our very special friends,
Until that time has come,
May you rest in peace, our beloved ones.
