I'm increasing mirtazapine from15 to 30 mg after being on 15mg for four weeks. I'm hoping I will feel less tired as I understand a higher dose can be less sedating although my GP said she had not heard of this effect. I was initially prescribed this because I wasn't sleeping well, which is a feature of my depression.

My mood is still low but I am not anxious now which was the case before I started the mirt. I'm hoping the increase will improve my mood.

Can anyone tell me if they did better on 30mg. I'm at a crossroads and tempted to throw the towel in with it as I just feel tired, fat (I've put 11llbs on) and my is mood flat.

Unfortunately 30mg didn't help me as a major trigger for my anxiety and as 15mg has an anti-histamine effect, but not 30, my insomnia returned so I had to go back to the lower dosage.

That said, if insomnia hadn't been a problem I would have stuck it out because I find there are less side-effects for me on mirt than other drugs I've tried.

As got GPs, they're not specialists, they have a range of disorders to treat. We have the time (and with the internet, the tools) to research medications and their effects in depth.

Most GPs have adapted to the internet generation, and don't mind you arriving with a little knowledge, in my experience.

Thank you Mark. I took it last night didn't feel drowsy and had twitchy arm and restless leg which I've already had at 15mg but did eventually get off to sleep and once asleep I slept right through till morning. I'm needing a boost to my mood so I'll give it at least this week to see what happens. I just wish I could manage without meds. I had weened myself off douselepine last year after being on it around three years. I was great for about 4 months and then the stress of work got to me (again) and I ended up off with stress/depression again. I tried going back on douselepine but was very low and not getting better quick enough but looking back maybe I should have stuck with it. My GP offered to try another med but I feel I should give this a bit longer on the higher dose. I just wish I had never started on meds I've been on and off them for 19 years. :0(:weep:
