Anybody have luck with magnesium citrate?

There aren't many threads on it.

I am going to be taking 4x100mgs/day and will record any effects I notice.

Just be careful as anything with citrate in can make your bowels loose, your better of using magnesium chelated

I tried magnesium because I'd heard it can help with anxiety. I bought magnesium citrate before reading about it thoroughly and learning that other types can be more efficiently absorbed and less likely to cause diarrhoea. But despite having IBS(D), I've had no additional digestive symptoms from it and after about 6 weeks I started to notice improvements in my anxiety (and energy and pain) levels.

I'm unsure if the other types could help me more, but I bought quite a big batch so I'm going to stick with the magnesium citrate for now and see how it goes.

I heard that magnesium was used up in the absorption of calcium, so people who take calcium supplements can sometimes end up with a magnesium deficiancy. I take quite a lot of antacids to ease my IBS, and antacids are calcium, so I thought it was worth trying the magnesium and it seems to have helped.

clio51,

I read that sometimes the chelated magnesium is made of certain types of magnesium that can exacerbate symptoms. I am taking the magnesium spread out in the day, so I don't really anticipate problems. No effects yet, positive or negative.

Edie,

Wow, six weeks seems to be a long time! I'm glad to hear that you are doing well with it :yesyes:
I was desperate to see improvements because it seems my anxiety is getting worse every day. Feels like an elephant is on my chest and I'm stuck in my room.
Decided to add inositol to the regimen today, and I will be posting a new thread about that.

I tried citrate.... Actually made me worse! Very irritable so I switched to chelate and it's worked wonders for me!!! Could be coincidence but hey whatever works right?

Magnesium Bisglycinate or Glycinate appears to be the most effective. Citrate gave me loose bowels, but the above two worked wonders!
