Its from January so sorry if some of you have already read/posted it. It deals with diagnosis. I've never been able to decide whether a diagnosis is a good or a bad thing....

There are pros and cons to applying a diagnosis.
For one it has the effect of reassurance. If someone has some strange medical symptoms and they see a doctor who puts a name on it, just hearing that label can have a positive effect on the person. The fear of it can drop and the unknown and uncertain nature of it can lose its edge. Secondly a diagnosis can help you communicate with others and aid in prognosis and treatment.
On the flip side the person can inherit everything that comes with a label and 'it becomes them' in a way. A label has the effect of making something more stable rather than transient. These two things have very negative connotations. Particularly in the mental health field.
The article highlights a couple of other things but those are the things that stick out for me.
