Hi I am new to this game. I was admitted to hospital as an emergency at the end of February with bleeding from the bowel and associated pain. Whilst in hospital I had a sigmoidoscopy which had to be aborted due to the immense pain I had.
I was discharged by the consultant although the registrar wanted me to stay. I had to return for a colonoscopy a week later as an out patient. I religiously drank the kleen prep muck. The colonoscopy again had to be aborted due to pain despite being sedated.
The doctor said I would have to take double the dose of kleen prep prior to the investigation. So in the 4 hour slots (2 x 2) I drank 12 litres of the stuff. Almost a torture scenario.
I have mobility problems anyway so I really did struggle with this. However I did this and returned to have the procedure. Again unsuccessful.
I now have to return for a CT Colonography again having to have the preparation liquid.
I have now been having problems for nearly 2 months, I am still on the low residue diet so have no fibre, fruit, veg intake although this is supplemented with Ensure protein drinks.
Because there has not yet been a specific diagnosis although my GP says it is Crohns or UC I have not had medication for it except the painkillers I ordinarily take. I am tired all the time, go to the loo 5 or 6 times daily, look as though I am 8 months pregnant and have the most explosive wind. When I manage to go there is on occasion blood in the stools but they are 'loose' and mucousy.
I read somewhere that Amitrypteline is beneficial to this type of disorder and it is interesting to note I was taken off this medication by the Pain Clinic and put onto Nortryteline. My bowel problems started around that time.
I am asking if other people have had dififculties with the colonoscopy and also does anyone have ideas about the amitrypteline
