Hi

Just wondering if anyone has gone private for anxiety/depression?

Im finding that the level of service within the NHS is quite poor & therefore my progress has been hindered.

I am now at rock bottom & believe my only chance of recovery is intensive therapy either rehab or a private pyschiatrist & psychologist/CBT/counsellor.

I do not have much money & neither do my parents but they are willing to get a loan to fund my treatment rather than see me taken into a NHS psychiatric hospital.

Thanks.

Hi Amy I'm sorry that you are unwell with anxiety and depression. I have had a lot of private psychiatric treatment both as an inpatient and day patient. My husband has private medical insurance and this is now used up for psychiatric treatment. Private treatment will run into tens of thousands of pounds. A half hour follow up with my consultant psychiatrist (last week) cost £180.00. A new patient assessment would cost in the region of £300.00.This might be worthwhile if you are looking for a diagnosis and assessment.Treatment costs would vary. I'm not sure what your problems are Amy but it might be worth asking your GP for a referral to 'The Cassel Hospital in Richmond Surrey. The treatment is residential and it is difficult to get into but it is NHS. They offer intensive psychotherapy in a therapeutic community setting. They specialise in personality disorders and depression and usually take people who have not responded to treatment elsewhere. My private consultant is at the Priory.I wish you well and I hope that you find the therapy that you are looking for.EJ

Hi Amy,

It all depends on what you need. I suffer with depression and anxiety in particular social.
I have gone private after waiting over a year on the NHS I am currently undergoing CBT with a my Phsycotherapist I pay £45 per hour session and you meet for your first session and they will assess what therapy would suit you and whether they can help it also give you chance to see if you feel comfortable with them. this i feel really needs to be the case so that you can really open up to get to the root of the problem.
I actually found mine via google but you can use the BABCP or BACP sites to find quailfier therapists in your area.

It can be quite costly as there is no telling how long you may need to go. I have been seeing mine since september and have come along way but still have loads more to tackle. But I know some of the clients only have around 20 sessions it all depends on the nature of the problem.

Hope this is of some help to you. Wish you luck.
