View Full Version : Doctor wants to see me about my blood test results, is this always bad?

I went to the GP a few weeks ago because I was worrying about my lymph nodes, and was told they are normal (infact the nurse couldn't even find the one I thought was huge), but got sent for a blood test anyway 'just to reassure me' (yeah right).
The nurse told me that they would get the results in 7-10 days but would only call if there was a problem, well they called back earlier and said I need to see the doctor tomorrow. I'm really scared now, I'm sure I have lymphoma and he just didn't notice, or something else horribly dangerous that I didn't know about.
:weep:
Has anyone else had this happen? And if it was something really dangerous, would they have left it six days to start with? Someone on Google said the lab would get you called within 48 hours if it was, but a different one said otherwise. Honest answers please.

I'm freaking out, and I also know my dad will shout at me and say it's from not being vegan if something is wrong with me, regardless of what it is!

EDIT: Does anyone know, if I had lymphoma would it have grown very obviously in about 10 weeks?

I would put money on the fact that your iron is probably a little low, simple iron tablets will sort it out,( great how you can rationalise somebody else's problems ) x

I had a call back when I had funny bilirubin results - just a random one-off. They call people back when anything is outside the normal range. Try not to worry.

Thanks for the answers. The multivitamins I take do have iron in them, could it still be low?

I had a phone call due to white cells being low or something and she wanted to check it again, anyway she did and it was fine! I think your blood can fluctuate even if you have a bit of a cold xx

That's interesting, I did have a cold a week or so before I went in. Could it change for that long?

Yes white counts take a while to build back up.

This sounds like low iron - or in my case last week, high iron!

I got called in after bloods last week but pushed them for a telephone consultation and when the doctor explained the results i don't know what all the fuss was about.
