View Full Version : Lying to Family/Friends Because of Anxiety/Panic

Has anyone had the unpleasant experience of lying (making up excuses why you "have to go home now," or why you said you'd come for a visit and you being but suddenly you can't quite make the really long drive, etc.) to family or friends to sort of cover up for the real reasons for what's happening, anxiety or panic?

It's not as if this happens a lot, but I've caught myself doing it and so it does happen, and I am just positively wrecked with guilt and I-am-an-awful-person-ness.

Does anyone have any advice or experiences in this regard?

Yes done it many times.
Your not a bad person at all, you suffer anxiety and sometimes it's easier to make excuses, as those who don't suffer don't always understand if we told them the real reasons ..and the last thing we need to hear is them saying "pull yourself together" ..and sometimes we are ashamed if our anxiety.
