Hi

A few weeks ago I was getting quite blurry eyes. I went to the opticions who said my eyes were healthy and that was that. However I then got sticky eyes especially in the morning and I went to the doctors as the inside bit (Small round lump) was a bit red and painfull. This was about two weeks ago. He said my eyelids were red and gave me eye drops as he thought it was to do with allergies and hayfever. However I have finished the eye drops and my eye although knowhere near as sticky are still a little bit sore (The side bit). He did say to be persistent but I am worrying so much about everything at the moment. There not as sticky but sometimes especially at night my eyes go bit foggy or something.

Could it just be allergies still playing up or something worse

Be careful with that. I was exactly the same with my eyes. Gp prescribed numerous eye drops over a period of months. I have allergies. I got antibiotic drops, hay fever drops and it never cleared.

It was on a routine eye test at the opticians when she said I had dry eyes. Was sent to specialist and will need to put drops in for life.

Oh god. Has anyone else had these issues. Is the little biton the inside bit dangerous or can things go wrong with it?

Willous,

Dry eyes are nothing to worry about ( If that`s what you have got)

It`s only a matter of using eye drops to lubricate.

The little bit inside your eye will be irritated from whatever is causing the redness.

The doctor has looked at your eyes and cannot see anything to worry about.

I was only saying I had your symptoms and I explained to the optician. She was able to tell by putting a blue coloured solution in my eyes that they were dry.

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks flori. Since having this health anxiety I have changed so much and worry about every little thing. If I get a head ache it scares the life out of me etc etc. I have had my eyes looked into so much in the last couple of years. I even went down a&e twice simply because my eyes were strained. I need to chill but as I have not had this before I worry.

It certainly sounds like allergic conjunctivitis. From what you've said there's a small chance it could be inectious conjunctivitis or a minor infection in the tear duct, although it if started in both eyes this is less likely. When both eyes are affected together it is usually allergy, and you haven't mentioned symptoms specific to infection. Some things you could try are an OTC allergy medication, such as an oral antihistamine, and a cold compress, which can relieve some of the symptoms.
Sadly, the best treatment is to avoid the allergen, which may not be possible in many cases.

You are welcome willous. Most of us on this site worry about minor ailments. I am one of them:)

Are you aware of any allergies. It`s hay fever, dust mite and animals that showed up in tests. That`s why gp was prescribing the drops. They were not helping and that `s when the dry eyes were diagnosed. If it doesn`t go away completely, go back to gp.

Use an eye bath too.

Try not to worry willous. We are all silly at times, because we worry over silly things. At times we can`t help it. It`s all part of our anxiety. You are definitely not alone in the worrying part.:)

Your eyes could also be getting more irritated because you are worrying about them. Are you testing them, rubbing them more often since the bleariness began? I think just try to rest them and not rub them at all. Then maybe get some soothing saline drops just to use for the short term and see if they feel better in a few days.
