View Full Version : Random depressing moments

Hiya

I have a breast lump and have for over a year. My doctor told me to take Evening Primrose Oil as my periods were irregular at the time and could have been the reason why I have the lump. She said that if the lump hasn't gone withint six months (end of November) then I will need to go to hospital again. The whole experience all in all was horrible and going through a cancer scare is just traumatising!

I'm scared because I keep getting moments where I feel my lump and then get images of me with a hat on covering my bald head and looking pale and thin. I'm scared that I have cancer and it depresses me.

My doctor said it's nothing serious but the lump hasn't gone and I keep getting depressed when the subject 'cancer' has been arose, especially when watching Holby City.

I really need reasurance. Also how can I stop myself from having the depressing moments because this is not the side of me that I like to show people, I am generally a happy person.

Last question, there is a boy I am currently dating with (no relationship) and when is the best time to tell him that I have a lump? I don't want him to freak out like "Ow my God she could have cancer!!!" nor do I want any sympathy of him.

Hi Jadey, sorry to hear your so down,I would see another doctor and get a second opinion, even if its just for peace of mind.I can understand why you are so depressed. You need to explain that the lump is making you ill with worry.
I would not watch holby city or casualty anything like that it puts things in our minds.
Our breasts do get lumpy at certain times of the month, and painfull.
take care

Jadey hun I think you are getting way ahead of yourself here. I think if your doctor had been at all alarmed by it all those months ago they would have whipped you in there and then.

It's very common to have lumps and bumps and obviously always best to get them checked out - hence your appt again in Nov.

On the flip side to this have you watched 'What not to Wear' last week and 'Trinny and Susannah' last night. Both these programmes reflected a much more positive aspect to breast cancer for me - there are thousands of women who do indeed get breast cancer and go on to fully recover and these programmes were all about helping them get their confidence back afterwards.

Both programmes brought a tear to my eye for all the right reasons!! Girl power!!!!!! :D:D:D

Thanks for that message Ellen. My doctor at the time is a specialist in that area so I'm pretty lucky to have her examine me. If the lump doesn't disappear by December then I will have to go back and see if I can get a second opinion. To be honest I would rather have this thing surgicaly removed so I can stop worrying.

Na I'm not going to watch it for a while, this woman as MN and it is so depressing to watch, I know it's only a story but the disorder is not fictional unfortunatly.

Thanks again.

Hiya Piglet. Na I didn't see that, I heard a woman had chemo so I assumed she had cancer, but I didn't know she had breast cancer!

Thanks for those points. If it was THAT serious I would have been seen there and then plus most patients with breast cancer fully recover (I did some research). I will definatly think of those instead of those negative points we see in the media.

Jadey i had a lump last year which my doctor was not concerned about but she reffered me anyway to put my mind at rest. I had a scan and a mammogram and it was a cyst which the doc said had been there for ages. He stuck a needle in and it was gone!!! Ask for a refferal if its bothering you.

Oooow I was meant to have a mammogram but I'm too flat chested so I had an ultra sound instead.

If that's the case then I will be so happy, one less worry off my mind =)

Thanks again.

hi jadey,
Its easy for people to say dont worry but of course we always do, we wouldnt be normal if we didnt.
I think its great that your doctor is a specialist in that area, so im sure she knows what shes talking about.
Hey and if your anything like me once youve got that worry off your mind youl find something else to worry about.

Take care

hi jadey,

this is really awful for you, did they tell you what the lump is? i know they would have referred you straight away if they were concerned about it, but it seems really unfair that they want you to wait and see if it goes away - that is very difficult emotionally and it is obviously on your mind.

If it was me, i would go back to the doctors and try to get an earlier appointment, they obviously know it is not a cancerous lump, but if it is causing you distress then i would've thought they would be able to just remove it for you, and then you won't need to think about it any more.

might be worth a try anyway.

take care
