Scientists have unravelled the structure of a 'misery molecule' that produces feelings of stress, anxiety and depression.
The molecule, CRF1, is found in the pituitary gland at the base of the brain, and knowing the details of its structure will allow scientists to design treatments to stop it in its tracks - and improve mental health care.
Dr Fiona Marshall of British bio-tech company Heptares Therapetics said: 'CRF1 responds to hormones released when people get stressed. It triggers all the things you feel when stressed.
"What we've done is work out how it works and, potentially, we can design drugs to control it"
Hope they get a grip and start working on the drugs soon!!!
