View Full Version : Does anyone do this subconsciously, too?

When I'm talking about intense personal subjects I have a habit of tensing up my calf muscles totally unintentionally, as if I'm bracing myself for stress. It used to be just if I was arguing with a family member or something but now that I'm in therapy, I realise I do it there too. It leaves me with sore/strained muscles for a day or two afterwards. :(

Does anyone else do this? How do you make yourself stop doing it? I tried not to do it at therapy today, but I still had sore muscles when I got up and left. It's like I can't even tell I'm doing it.

i clench my teeth sometimes without realising it, stress can cause us to just tense up in general and its hard to control blessings

I do that with my legs, arms, shoulders, jaw... I don't even realize how much I tense up everyday until I get a sore neck or headache. When I try to stop myself, it makes me feel oddly uncomfortable, but it is worth trying to make yourself stop. There are really good relaxation exercises where you tense up your muscles then release, maybe try that before bed?

I clench teeth without realising - first I know is when I start to get a pounding headache.

If I am somewhere uncomfortable or up fairly high I also grip chairs very tighly and tense leg muscles too - not pleasant
