The jaw clenching is one of my classics!!

Doing this though leads to tension headaches with me, so I now make a real effort to drop my jaw regularly during the day (can be quite a sight for anyone watching me) :D)!

Try it and think of me doing it too!! Perhaps we could team up and make it a double act!!

Make that a trio as I do this too :D. In fact I often don't even realise I am doing it sometimes until I notice that I am clenching tightly and then I make an effort to relax my jaw. It's quite a common thing to do. This sometimes leads to neck tightness with me that can make me feel lightheaded. I sometimes get tension headaches from that and my neck too.

Take care, you're not alone with this,

I have my jaw so tense that I actually feel like there is a huge amount of pressure that rises along my face and my ears seem blocked. I open my mouth really wide and listen for a crack and am always stretching it.

Oh yes, to the dizziness and the jaw clenching. When I am particularly tense I chew gum now. It seems to help. I also eat several little meals each day to keep my blood sugar up. It helps me not feel so dizzy. I also try not to get up so fast when I've been lying down or sitting. I hope you feel better soon.

I'll join the "jaw clenchers" too! :D:D

Hubby says I also grind my teeth terribly when I'm asleep. Little wonder that my teeth and gums are very painful during the day :(

Hi its really interesting that so many people are saying this; I've had jaw tension for years and now I have dizziness; then i read on the internet that TMJD (jaw tension) is linked with dizziness; feel the angle of your jaw and see how close it is to your ear (ie balance mechanisms). I'm going to put a poll on the general board to try and establish how likely it is that this is the cause, so please go on and vote in it. This would be really encouraging if there is a connection, as there IS something that can be done about the jaw; go to your dentist and get a mouth guard fitted; you wear this at night to stop u grinding your teeth.

A good friend of mine has been given a guard to wear over her teeth at night - it turned out to be such a good contraceptive that she has been able to come off the pill!

So girls if you really don't feel like it tonight just put your mouth guard in your mouth (where else [Duh!] [:I]) and smile at your partner!! Sorted!!!

Well hun you keep grinding em and you won't need to!!:D:D:D

I'm not overly keen on them myself but you know what Kate with me the waiting room is the worst bit!!!

If it's any comfort my dad didn't go for 22 years and didn't need anything doing, as he so smugly told us all! I think that may have been the day mum had a front tooth out and they decided to get divorced! :D

Piglet,

I haven't been for about 10 years. I'm so ashamed of myself for being such a poof. I've got a filling that's chipped and I can't eat on that side, and I know it could all so easily be sorted out if I could just get myself to go to the dentist.

I'm also so worried that the dentist will say he has never seen such neglected teeth. The embarassment factor as well.

It isn't the pain so much but the trapped in the chair wanting to run away or pass out feelings that are the problem. Hubby says he will come with me anytime but it's just another thing that has got completly out of hand.

Well speaking as one who <s>never </s>always avoids anything, I have to say the dentist isn't my worst fear! Like I say it's the waiting in the waitingroom that I am so bad at - I kinda feel once I am laying in the chair even if I do faint I am not gonna go very far!

The other thing about being at the dentist is that everybody expects weird and wonderful behaviour (I almost feel cheated if everyone acts normal) so you can just blend in! I have a very sensible friend (just the one) who's a nurse but get her at the dentist and even I am gobsmacked at the transformation in her. I have begun offering to go with her now and I take drinks and snacks and settle myself in for a good performance. Then we chat all about it on the way home - where she at this point is now marvelling at my agoraphobic behaviour and passing me a paper bag! :D:D

ME too (hands up) i'm a jaw clencher AND i have one of those rather sexy mouthguards:D
Another tip i found whilst googling[Sigh...] one day was to rest the tip of your tongue on the front of your lower teeth as its impossible to clench then. Honestly it works, i do it mostly when driving.
