Started having pain attacks in my liver area of stomach that would start with a dull pain and then
within a matter of minutes the pain spreads up to my chest and the only thing that makes it go away
is quickly eating brown bread and drinking at least half a litre water.

Went for scan. They discovered gallstones. Had gallbladder removed. Still have pain attacks daily.
Ive been living with this pain for a year and a half now. Am going to a liver specialist soon but
I have a feeling he will just look at my blood test results(which say everything is fine) and tell me,
"Everything is fine" and my reasoning is, no everything is not fine, because obviously something is
going wrong in my liver that caused gallstones to form in the first place, and obviously something is
still going wrong in my liver because I have these pain attacks still. I go to the toilet regularly but
my stools are always hard and dry. I have had to stop eating fatty foods because this will increase the
frequency of the pain attacks which actually leads me to believe that for some reason my liver cannot
break down fats anymore.

I was hoping someone here might have had similar symptoms and can offer some advice on what I can do
to cure myself. I was hoping maybe theres some type of tea I must drink or there are vitamins I can try.

Ive also had for at least a year now a constant slight pressure on my left temple, which Im assuming might
be caused by my liver problems seeing as the liver helps to regulate blood I think.

Hi

I've had similar pains in the liver area, had many bloods taken and many liver function tests. All fine like you.

I too was very anxious about there being something wrong with my liver. Now I realise that to have pain in your liver, there would have to be something definitely wrong, and we would be having all sorts of symptoms like vomiting blood, blood in the stool, yellowing of the skin and eyes, extreme tiredness ... the list goes on and on.

However, to help look after your liver, milk thistle supplements are good. They help protect the liver and help detoxify it. Green teas are also good as they contain lots of antioxidants - plenty of water is also great too. Exercise is also good for the liver, and if you happen to be overweight then losing a little weight is also good as the liver doesn't like a build up of fat inside.

But I'm sure you're fine. Perhaps the consultant could organise an ultra-sound scan of your liver to put your mind at rest.

My friend had pain after her gallbladder removal if she ate certain foods. Were you placed on a special diet?

You have to cut out the fatty foods as you can't digest them properly which is causing the pain.

It however be your liver so you really should get that looked into, maybe check too how you are digesting foods and be aware their is the possibility the pain might be due to nerve damage after the operation.

You can help the doctors too by keeping notes on the pain, what you were doing and a food diary.
