Hi all,

Im 40 years old and my weekend is about to be ruined with worry. I had a blood test last week forward 40 to 75 year health check just out of interest. Had a letter this morning to say I need another blood test in two weeks. My cholesterol was fine, my lives function test was fine but apparently my white blood cell count was only 3.1when normal is between 4 and 10. I am so scared .

My daughter had the same and they said it does fluctuate quite a lot so nothing to worry about. She had another test a few weeks later and it had gone up again.

Thank you so much for your reply. I Googled earlier. What a mistake! Some horrible stuff came up I don't want to mention.

The worst scenarios always show up on google...take no notice off it. I worried about my daughter (she is 27) but she was fine :)

If you have had a viral infection recently it could also cause a low white blood cell count. Apparently it can also be a genetic and insignificant thing. :)

I had a viral infection the end of February, but I should think Im ok now. Im very active, working full time with two teenagers. I cycle and walk everywhere.

I don't think you have anything to worry about :)

Thank you. One website I found was saying it could be stress or a deficiency in your diet.

Got another blood test on Wednesday. Going to boost up my immunity in the meantime with extra vitamin C pills.

Hi there just wanted to reassure you some more, I have low white cell count every time I have blood taken and I have had a lot of blood tests, I am in my 40s too and apart from bipolar2 am physically fit and healthy. Drs have told me it is normal for some people. The only time it was ever a problem was when I was put on a mood stabilizer that was known to cause white cell count to drop so just have to be a bit careful with meds. So don't worry it is really not serious unless you have other symptoms. All the best

Had my second blood test yesterday. It took four attempts to get some blood out and on the fourth my arm swelled up and I had to sit in the room with an ice pack on it!
I've got an appointment with the doc today which is part of this NHS health check, so we'll see what happens. Im hoping my blood results from yesterday will be back and my white cell count has improved. Was worrying dreadfully at work yesterday I don't think my swollen arm helped. Feeling more positive this morning. Will let you know how it goes.

Yes thank you, ended up with a migraine while in the waiting room though. Haven't had one of those in a year, I think it was the stress I'd put myself under and the nurse agreed. Just been chilling out at home since and I've got 5 days off work now so going to make the most of it! :D

Happy days!!!!
