Following on from this thread http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140888 Auntie Moosie suggested a healthy eating thread which I thought was a great idea as what we eat can affect our mood greatly.
Okay then to start with I am suggesting that we all try to eat our five a day (fruit/veg) and see how well we do. At the end of the day post which 5 you have eaten.
Today I have had 1 glass of Mango juice, 1 portion of red and yellow peppers, 1 portion of raisins and 1 portion of strawberries. Which means I have missed out on 1 of my portions...hmm maybe another glass of pure fruit juice will make it up :)
How have you done today?

AuntieMoosie

Great thread Annie :yesyes:

Today I have had all of my five a day and more I think :)

I've had

Water cress
Cucumber
Tomato's
Beetroot
Fresh fruit salad containing...melon, apple, strawberry, and grapes :)

I can't have 5 a day so at most I get one or 2

AuntieMoosie
08-09-13, 02:33
Is that because of your crohn's Nic??

It must be very difficult for you with what you eat hun.

My Son has IBS and he suffered severely with it from the age of 17, at one point, the specialist tested him for crohn's but, thankfully, it wasn't that, just severe IBS, which has got better as he's got older.

I know with him, his diet was sooo restrictive because so much upset him and would cause him hours of agony :weep:

Do you have to stick to some sort of strict diet with Crohn's Nic?

Annie0904
08-09-13, 11:03
You did really well Auntie Moosie :)
Aww Nicola one of my friends has Chrons and I know she can only eat certain foods and has quite a restrictive diet. :(
I have noticed that when I go for a few days without fruit and veg I feel a lot more lethargic but with ibs I have to be careful which 5 a day I select.
Can we count chocolate as one of our 5 a day as it is made from cocoa beans and beans are a vegetable right? haha...I wish!

nomorepanic

Yeah I am not supposed to have too much fibre and some things really aggravate me (like Orange juice) so I stick to about 2 portions of fruit and veg a day which is a shame as I love fruit but it doesn't love me lol.

I can't have orange juice either as is sets my ibs off. I try to stick to berry fruits and peaches and pears as I seem fine with those.

Nic it must be a pain trying to get what you eat right hun.

The only real fruit juice that I can drink is apple........orange goes through me like a porche  and I can't have grapefruit anyway cos of one of the medications that I'm on!

Annie I've asked myself the same question about Cadbury's fruit and nut.........fruit = one of our 5 a day...........nuts = protein, so there for good for us.........milk = calcium, which is good for bones and teeth.......and all that equals that it must be good for us :winks:

Today I haven't quite had my 5 a day. I did have cauliflower and broccoli with my dinner though and I will probably have another little fresh fruit salad.

The really good news is that I weighed myself today and I've lost 3lb..........not bad for the first week me thinks :)

*dashes into the kitchen to search cupboards for Cadbury's fruit and nut* :winks:

lizzie29
08-09-13, 23:10
I totally agree about the chocolate - the cocoa beans are a vegetable (all beans are, right?!), full of calcium... I think we should def be eating some every day! ;-)

Auntie I had cauliflower and broccoli today too! And orange juice, a banana, and a portion of watercress/spinach/rocket. There's my 5!

Annie0904
08-09-13, 23:17
I had cauliflower and broccoli too. Well done lizzie on getting your 5 a day today :)

lizzie29

They're obviously popular veg! I sometimes have them with cheese sauce, mmm. Not very healthy tho!

bernie1977
08-09-13, 23:27
I read somewhere only 2 of your 5 a day should be fruit, something to do with the high volumes of natural sugars in fruit.

Today I've had: green beans, carrots, cauliflower, corn on the cob, banana, red grapes & strawberries. 7 items, so a good day for me

AuntieMoosie
08-09-13, 23:38
Wow! Well done to those that managed to get all of their 5 in today :yesyes:

Are we all a bit OCD with the cauliflower and broccoli do you think?!! :winks:

Lizzie I love cauliflower and broccoli with cheese sauce too, I have got myself some low fat cheese, so maybe I'll be able to get away with it a bit :)

Bernie it's interesting that you say that. I'm diabetic too, but I spoke to my GP about eating fruit and she said it's fine, it's more the refined sugar that they worry about, but there are several different opinions out there. All I can say is that my blood glucose levels haven't gone up at all since I've been eating more fruit :)
7 is brilliant Bernie :yesyes:

bernie1977
08-09-13, 23:51
I find it quite easy to do Auntie Moosie as I'm on a strict diet as I get really bad acid reflux and when I have a flare up I sometimes get gastritis.

It is quite easy to do, if you're struggling eating just a 5cm chunk of cucumber is one portion. Another easy one is a small tin of pears if you don't have any fresh fruit in.

Why is it that fresh fruit and vegetables are getting more and more expensive when all we're told to do is eat healthy??!! All the sweets, crisps etc seem to be getting cheaper or are always on offer

nomorepanic
09-09-13, 00:01
I am not supposed to eat seeds either as they cause problems with diverticular disease lol.

I do still eat tomatoes and fruits with seeds in cos no way am I picking them all out lol

Annie0904
09-09-13, 11:42

I like them with cheese sauce too...I guess if we use low fat cheese?

---------- Post added at 11:42 ---------- Previous post was at 11:39 ----------

Bernie I prefer tinned pears to fresh ones but the other fruits I prefer fresh, but yes they are getting more expensive.
Nicola I had food intolerance tests done and it says I am intolerant to sunflower and sesame seeds.

Annie0904
09-09-13, 21:14
I have only had 4 today, 2 fruit and 2 veg. I think fruit tea counts as 1 of 5 a day?

AuntieMoosie
09-09-13, 22:45
Nic I wouldn't muck about sorting seeds out either hun!! :)

Bernie I so agree with you about the cost of fresh fruit and veg. The government want us all to eat healthy, well then, they should pay the farmers more, and they should knock off any VAT from all healthy foods and stack it on the non healthy ones :)

Well I've been pretty good today as I've had another salad so I think I can safely say that I've had my 5 for today :)

Annie0904
09-09-13, 23:06
Well done Auntie Moosie. I think I will make myself a salad tomorrow.

bernie1977
09-09-13, 23:13
I agree Auntie Moosie extra tax on turkey twizzlers and dirty kebabs!

Today I've had a banana, red apple, carrots, green beans, cauliflower. I also had some boiled beetroot on a ham sandwich and I made sure it was a large enough portion to count as one of my five a day.

That's one thing to look out for, make sure your portion sizes are big enough to count

I prefer tinned pears too Annie, fresh ones are either too hard or have gone sour when they're soft

AuntieMoosie
10-09-13, 00:11
I like tinned pears too, and peaches for that matter :)

But can you buy them without that sugary syrup stuff?? I can't have them with that stuff in because of my diabetes.

Bernie YUK to kebabs!! Do people eat them normally then?? The only time I see people eat them is when they're drunk!!!!....then they don't know what they're eating.........if you go to our town centre early on Saturday or Sunday morning, you'll find the all the kebabs that were eaten the night before all over the pavements! :winks:

Annie0904

Gosh - you're all so good! Does a chocolate orange count :D! I love veggies but only if they're mixed in a meal. I can eat things like veg stews/pies, veg curry (you get the idea) but if you put a plate of carrots or cauliflower in front of me I struggle - I find it really bland. I do love green beans though. I love beans in general - any kind! I'm quite good with fruit too but could try harder.

Loving this thread. Giving me ideas and motivation to eat healthier! xx

Annie0904
10-09-13, 11:05
Chocolate...cocoa beans...beans are veg. Orange...fruit. chocolate orange...would be nie if that was 2 of our 5 a day! I had a craving for chocolate oranges when I was expecting my oldest son and they are his favourites now :)
It doesn't have to be raw veg meche, cooked counts but try not to over cook as it cooks the goodness out. Steamed veg is better than boiled.

meche
10-09-13, 11:40
I am developing a liking for cauliflower but I have to mix pepper in with it to give it a kick. I like spicy food! I also love stir frys - lots and lots of veg in them. I often make pots of soup with lentils, carrots, onion, and swede when I need a veggie kick. It's all about balance isn't it. I try to follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I'm good but I allow myself a few treats at the end of the week. Thing is, I've had too many treats lately ! xx

Annie0904
10-09-13, 11:48
Same with me meche...I sometime think "well I have been really good eating this so I that means I can be naughty and eat this cake"!

lizzie29
10-09-13, 12:30
And me! Try to eat healthily but am not perfect, and do slip in some treats! I personally think that it's ok as long as you don't go overboard - everything is good in moderation!

I've only had one of my 5 so far today, but about to have grapes and have got spinach, onions and mushrooms for tea.

Annie0904
10-09-13, 12:36
I have only had half a portion so far today so you are doing better than me Lizzie :)

meche
10-09-13, 12:38
I've had far too much cake recently :lac:. The thing is, what I eat affects my mood. When I eat too much rubbish (which I'm guilty off lately), I feel sluggish and tired. Then I don't do anything and I get bored, when I get bored I think too much.... see the pattern? I'm on a major health kick from this week and my new gym instructor has offered me lots of help. I have an appt with her this Sunday to run through lots of things. I'm going to be weighed, measured, have blood pressure & fat levels taken and a personal programme worked out. Really looking forward to it. My goal is to get to 8.5 stone. My biggest problem is that I don't do breakfast - that isn't good! I need to make time for it - I just never know what to have! xx

Annie0904
10-09-13, 13:30
I totally agree about what we eat affecting our mood. Meche you must eat breakfast, even if it is just a bowl of cereal, yoghurt or a banana :)

meche
10-09-13, 13:57
I know. I'm really trying this week. I sometimes don't eat anything until 2pm but then my metabolism kicks in and I'm constantly hungry. I have some bad eating/timing habits I need to break. xx

lizzie29
10-09-13, 14:43
Meche that sounds good about the gym, I know I don't have the determination to stick to that, and no time to go in the week. I just have to try eating healthily. I want to do more exercise but am currently seeing a chiropractor about a bad back, so am a bit limited.

meche
10-09-13, 14:55
I've been going on/off for a year Lizzie. I initially joined because I was doing a sponsored hike up a mountain. I didn't think I could stick with it either but I found myself feeling more energised and my body shape was changing. I've stuck with it but these past few weeks I've struggled for no particular reason. Gone from 3-4 times a week to once ! I feel it now though - tired, sluggish and getting flabby! There are gym programmes for people with bad backs - we have a few at ours. There's even a young guy with a muscle wasting disability who works really hard. Puts me to shame some days! xx

Annie0904
10-09-13, 15:16
I did 2 terms of Pilates before the summer but need to cut down on spending now that I am not working so decided not to go. I have bought the equipment to do it at home but unfortunately I haven't been motivated enough to take it out of the packaging

meche
10-09-13, 15:25
I've tried to do it at home too Annie but it never works. I have countless exercise DVD's - some like you, that haven't been opened. It's taking that first step but once you start feeling and seeing results it can be addictive. My gym is right next door to my work so I'm there in seconds. Out one door and straight in another! No excuses really.... although I do still look for them! xx

10-09-13, 18:00
Well I've been good again today, had my five for sure as I had a salad again. It will be different tomorrow though......so I may not be so good then :)

I think it's hard to get in the five a day if you're have what I call "a hot or gravy dinner" I mean I can have 2 small portions of veg with it, I usually do, but I don't eat breakfast, just can't I'm never hungry then and If I make myself have breakfast, it makes me feel bloated and really off for the day, so I avoid it now, and later in the evening I might have a piece of fruit, so that only brings me up to 3..........I can't think really of any ways that I could make the other 2??

Annie0904
10-09-13, 18:06
A glass of pure fruit juice counts as 1 of your five a day. That is how I get mine up. I have only had 4 today so may have to have another glass of juice. I guess there wasn't enough fruit in my fruit cake to count as a portion :).

AuntieMoosie
10-09-13, 18:46
I'll have to get some apple juice then.

Annie do you happen to know what varieties there are in fresh fruit juice now please hun??

I can't have grapefruit because it effects one of the medications that I'm on and I can't have orange juice cos it just goes straight through me at an alarming rate!!!!

So am I to be stuck with apple then?? :)

Annie0904
10-09-13, 19:42
orange juice has the same affect on me. Innocent fruit smoothies are good. In juices you can get mango, passion fruit, pineapple, raspberry, grape.

lizzie29
10-09-13, 19:48
Meche - even without the bad back I'd be useless! I just don't enjoy exercise, and lack motivation. The pain put me off too, but I'm determined once my back is better to get fit. I haven't bought any home dvds etc as I no I won't do them!

Juices you can get things like apple and mango too, and other combinations.

orange juice has the same affect on me. Innocent fruit smoothies are good. In juices you can get mango, passion fruit, pineapple, raspberry, grape.

I would stay away from Innocent Smoothies, they contain as much sugar as 3 and a half Krispy Kreme doughnuts honestly http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2301135/15-WORST-health-drinks-Orange-juice-Innocent-smoothies-sugar-13-Hobnobs-3-half-doughnuts.html

I think coca cola buying the Innocent Smoothies company says it all, they put cheap corn syrup in the drinks which make the sugar content even higher.

That's why the doctors are now saying only have 2 out of your 5 a day as fruit because of the high levels of natural sugars in some fruits. Have fruit by all means but preferably fresh or if you get tinned make sure it's in it's natural juices not syrup. If you get fruit juice don't buy the stuff made from concentrate, get the fresh stuff from the refrigerated aisles.

Some further information here about portion sizes, so you know what qualifies as one portion for anyone interested http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/5ADAY/Pages/Portionsizes.aspx

You're welcome !

I'm sure it will be ok if you don't have too many other high sugar things the same day as you have the juice.

I don't calorie count much anymore I eat according to the recommended daily amount of fat, sat fat, sugar, fibre, protein etc and I make sure I don't go over. I saw a programme and people were calorie counting but lots went over the recommended daily amount for fat and sugar and some even ended up obese

We're quite similar then Meche it's my big 4 0 next year. I'm 5ft 1 1/2, that 1/2 inch is very important! All through my teenage years up to my mid 30's I was always around 7 stone but now I average around 8-8 1/2 stone. I think its a combination of age and my medication. Tessar you've had loads of stuff there, good effort!

Unfortunately I also hd chocolate today, as well as my fruit and veg! I'm not overweight, just about average. I used to be stuck thin and ate loads, including lots of chocolate. Now I et less and am bigger, it started for me when I was about 27 too meche!

What things do you have for brekkie that make you bloated? I used to have cashews and dates but had to stop that because the sugar in the dried fruit was a problem. I liked dried prunes as well but had the same issue with all dried fruit. I ended up with candida!

Well another successful gym session ladies followed by a bowl of wholesome homemade potato & veg soup. Thing is, I feel a sweet craving coming & don't want to succumb! What do you ladies eat to substitute a sugar craving? xx

Fruit smoothie that's whats have to satisfy my sweet tooth. At least it's a better sugar than say the refined stuff.

Aww me too Auntie Moosie :( I have only had 1 of mine and I have just eaten a baked potato. I feel really really yuck today and so tired, I feel like having a good cry. Sending you hugs Auntie :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Oh what is in the air today?? Hmmmnnnn I didn't have any afters 2nite .... Didn't feel like it. Most unlike me but I'm all bloaty :blush:. I think I had too much coffee today. It is decaff but sometimes it affects my bowels. I did have my fruit today (4 types in a pot about the size of a mug), salad for lunch & veg 2nite.

ANYONE FEELING "OFF" I A, SENDING YOU SOME GOOD VIBES.:flowers:
GOOD VIBES ALSO TO ANYONE FEELING WELL.

Hope you all feel better soon!
I didn't do as well with my portions today. I had a chicken wrap for lunch which had some lettuce and pepper in. I went out for tea and had a lovely pasta in a goats cheese sauce, which had pepper and courgette in but not much of either.

I then finished off with an icecream sundae! Which contained 0 portions of fruit or veg but was very yummy!

something i wish i had learned years ago........ if you are going to "have a treat" or "be naughty", whichever way you want to look at it ....... you may as well enjoy it. Savour every lovely mouthful.

After all, if you are likely to feel even mildly guilty about having this treat, then definitely enjoy it.

I find sometimes if I have had a treat, and enjoyed it, I then get back onto the healthy eating with plenty of committment. also thinking of the week as a whole. 80% of the time you are good. The remaining 20%, well, you can try to make it good but if it isnt, at least you'd have been good most of the time! That works quite well for me!

lizzie29
12-09-13, 18:17
I don't think I'd cope without treats! I personally don't think there's any point eating so healthily that you're miserable, it just all needs to be in moderation.

Hope everyone is feeling good today :-)

Thank you for all your kind words all :D

To be honest today, for me, is not that much different! And my concentration is completely naff!!!!!!......takes me ages to type as I keep doing spelling mistakes or I go completely brain dead for a minute or two!!!

Tessar I think more or less anything I eat in the morning doesn't sit well with me. I don't know why, when I was a child and young adult, I used to have breakfast every day, then suddenly it changed??!!

It just seems to make me feel uncomfortable and it knocks my appetite off for the rest of the day??

I've tried toast, weetabix, cornflakes and various other cereals, but it always has this effect on me.

Today I haven't had all of my 5 just yet but I have had a healthy dinner as I had liver, boiled new potato's with the skins on, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots with gravy.

Sending you all hugs :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I'm exactly the same, when I was younger I used to have cooked breakfast and even stinky kippers for breakfast. The mere thought of that now makes me want to heave!

I have weetabix or belvita breakfast biscuits then an apple or banana for my breakfast, my tummy can't handle anything else.

Ooooh they sound nice Annie, what brand are they I'll have to try some. I love the rhubarb and custard taste. I've just had a rhubarb and custard soya yoghurt it was lovely.

Today of my five a day I've had: banana, red grapes, cucumber, carrots, green beans & garden peas

12-09-13, 23:01
Auntie Moosie - hope you feel better tomo. My sister's the same re breakfast, she just can't stomach it. I, however, wake up starving and have to eat!

Annie - of course those biscuits count!

Bernie - what do you think of the weetabix biscuits? I tried them once and thought they were horrible! Wish I liked them tho, as they're a good standby. Also, if I go too long without food I feel ill, lightheaded and shaky, so they'd be handy to keep in my bag. If only I liked them!

Tessar - I didn't realise the soup counted, brill!

Annie0904

Lizzie I am the same if I go long without food. I need to eat healthier snacks though.

Really chuffed today ladies. I feel less bloated and full of energy. I've been really good with my diet although I have had a little bit of chocolate. Mind you, it wasn't a whole bar like it usually is - just a couple of squares to satisfy my craving. Apart from 1 day, I've cycled 3 miles to and from work every day, 2 gym sessions and 1 Zumba class. So far so good. Lets hope I can keep it up over the weekend! xx

Annie0904

I'm sure you've done great Annie. You're all so good with your fruit/veg. That's where I need to step it up. All I've really done this week is cut out the crap. I've been eating breakfast, snacking on seeds/nuts, having soup for lunch and cooking for 2 instead of 4 like I usually do. I've still had chocolate and a Chinese takeaway though..... and I didn't feel guilty. For me it's more about the exercise than the food though. I felt fab after my Zumba class last night and I'm still buzzing today. xx

I think we're all doing really well. Thing is, I've got a huge urge to eat a pasty with brown sauce. Had the craving all day!! xx

Tessar
13-09-13, 15:35
well, a pasty isnt great as the pastry would be laden in fat but you could make it a "better" meal by ensuring the pasty has a high veg content or that it is accompanied by a big helping of veg? then why not go for it?
i watched a programme once that was presented by victoria wood. she was looking into diets and stuff. one "cure" quoted for cravings was to go out and overeat on whatever it is you crave. then i suppose you have too much & then hate it. craving gone. except, naaa it doesnt work like that!!! well, not for me at least.

meche
13-09-13, 16:02
Doesn't work for me either Tessar. Nah - I'm keeping busy and ignoring the craving. Going to make a veggie curry for tea and looking forward to it! xx

AuntieMoosie
13-09-13, 16:33
meche and and all, I think you're all doing great :yesyes:

It's not easy to completely change our lifestyles, but I feel we're getting there slowly :)

The exercise is the bit that I'm finding tricky. I can only do small amounts as I have been told by my doctor that I have to build up to it gradually because of some heart issues that I have.

So far, I've had a little dance, all by myself, to my 70's disco CD, just enough to get me a little bit breathless.

I also scrubbed my cooker from top to bottom and side to side one day....I think that nearly keeled me over!!! But my doctor said it was really good cardiac exercise.

I'm not confident enough to do anything outside of home yet, I'll build that up steadily too. My doctor can prescribe me time at a local gym but that will be for later on :)

What I'd really, really love to do though is to get back in the pool or the sea, which is better, and have a swim. I used to love swimming, am quite a strong swimmer but I haven't done it for years now. I don't really like the swimming baths, as it's far too hot in there and all the noise goes through my head and makes me feel panicky

Anyway........I haven't made my five a day yet, but have had another healthy dinner, I finished off the liver, had boiled new potato's with skins on and a heap of sliced green beans :)

I will get some fruit in later, but don't think I'll quite make the five today. :)

Annie0904
14-09-13, 22:01
Dancing to 70's music Auntie Moosie...that sounds good exercise. I wish I could swim but I am terrified of water.
I have only had 3 of my 5 a day today :( Naughty me :(

lizzie29
14-09-13, 22:04

Annie0904

However, today I managed 20 minutes non-stop running on the treadmill - that's a first for me! It wasn't easy & I was pushed to my limit but I'm so happy. Loving my new gym programme - think it will get me results. xx

As that's about 200 miles away, I think I'll have to decline!

I don't like raisins, sultanas etc so that counts out Christmas cake, mince pies, and Christmas pud. Is that the same with you? Wish I like raisins as they'd make a good snack.

Tessar
17-09-13, 09:32
it's exactly the same with me! i really dont like any of that, i'd rather go hungry! fruit does make a good snack but it is high in sugar so although its natural sugar, you would be able to eat too many of them anyway... :-)

lizzie29
17-09-13, 17:10
Do you like nuts? I don't like them either and again, a handy snack!

Hi ladies. Hope you're all doing ok. Back to basics for me today! Yesterday wasn't a very good day. My other half is away in Manchester this week so I'm home alone. I've been doing really well up until yesterday when I had a day off from work. I was busy round the house so didn't eat anything until 1 (had a pasty), then about 3 I had a ham sandwich followed by a bar of chocolate then at 7 decided I couldn't be bothered to cook and ordered a takeaway !!! I enjoyed every moment of it but went to bed feeling bloated, fat and guilty. Brand new day today - lots of fruit, water and salad! xx

AuntieMoosie
19-09-13, 14:16
Aww Meche don't you be feeling guilty at all hun :)

It's not the end of the world because you fell of the wagon for a day hun, that's going to happen to all of us at some point :)

I'm diabetic and fell right off that wagon at Christmas and I've only just started getting back on it!!!! My doctor said it's a very common thing and nothing to worry about so long as we can get back on the wagon :)

So no more beating yourself up hun, you're a beautiful person whether you've had treats to eat or not :hugs:

Aw thank you - you've made me feel so much better. I guess I'm feeling a bit guilty because I've missed 2 gym sessions this week - all for valid reasons and not because I've been lazy! I suppose I could have fitted them is somewhere but I've been so tired this week. Anyway, zumba tonight so I will work harder :). xx

Annie0904
19-09-13, 16:59
You have done more gym sessions than me! :D
I have just made a plum cake..it has 1lb plums in it and unrefined brown sugar. Will a big slice count as 1 of my 5  Maybe I should just have eaten the plums and not made them into a cake :D

AuntieMoosie
19-09-13, 20:55
Oh Annie..........no hun, you did exactly the right thing by putting them in a cake........now, as you deem that that's still part of our 5 a day, I would like a fairly big slice, if it's a big slice, that can be 2 of my 5 :winks:

Well I've not done too good with the 5 situation, but did have a healthy dinner of extra lean minced beef, carrots, onions and boiled new spuds with the skins on :)

My OH got me some of my favorite porridge today, Scots Oats, can't beat them, so tomorrow I'm going to have my first bowl of porridge for the winter :yesyes:

Aww Poor Auntie Moosie :hugs: Lets get back to the healthy eating :D I haven't done well so far today so will report back later :D

20-09-13, 14:59
Hehe.
Today i have had two so far.
Innocent orange juice. And two bananas. Have also eaten scrambled eggs on toast and a few fizzy haribos. Was hungry and nothing real in. Mum gone shop now.
Btw even if you eat 5 bananas for example that's still only 1 of 5 a day. 5 a day has to be five different fruit and veg.

Dinner is salad with ham and cheese. Lettuce, pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, coleslaw, new pots and beetroot.

20-09-13, 15:17
Yeh..... think today's healthy eating is a write-off for me! Started off well: toast, banana and grapes but then realised when I got to work I'd forgotten my lunch! Had to go out and get something but there wasn't much choice so came back with a chicken & bacon pasta salad. Not the sort of thing I would usually buy but it was quite nice. I ate too much of it though and feel sick! If that wasn't enough I've just been downstairs to another office and they've got a huge tin of roses open..... I had to have 1..... ok 2! I seem to be on a bad-good-bad day pattern at the moment. For today I give up but will get back on track tomorrow. xx

Em.ma
20-09-13, 17:22
Huge salad for dinner.
Lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, beetroot, coleslaw, pickled onions, new potatoes, ham and cheese. Yummy.

Annie0904
20-09-13, 17:54
You have had a healthy day today Emma. I am not doing so good today :( Only 1 portion so far...naughty me :)

Rennie1989
20-09-13, 19:37
Since being back from my honeymoon I've eaten nothing remotely healthy, apart from roast gammon with salad two nights ago. Today I polished off the wedding cake, had left over pizza and wedges for tea and likely to have a kebab later when husband comes home. You wouldn't think I'm 7st.

AuntieMoosie
20-09-13, 22:25
Emma, wow! I think you're covered for today then hun :winks:

Rennie how did your wedding go please hun?............as if it's not bad enough that Annie is teasing me with her plum cake.........you now mention wedding cake :winks:............I love wedding cake..........did ya save me a slice? :winks:

Well I haven't had a successful day with my 5.........I've only had a bowl of porridge and 6 ryvitas with marmite on, don't think I've even made 1 of my 5  :winks:

AuntieMoosie
21-09-13, 21:09
Well I'm a very happy Moosie moo today, weighed myself and I've lost another 3lbs :yesyes: So far, that makes it 8lbs in 4 weeks, long may it continue :)

Today's dinner was jacket potato, I ate the skin too, with reduced sugar and salt baked beans, I know I didn't really do the 5 thing today, but I'm happy that what I ate was at least healthy :)

Annie0904
21-09-13, 23:25
Well done Auntie Moosie :) I managed 4 of my 5 today. Ineed to drink more water though as this past week I haven't drank as much as I should.

Tessar
22-09-13, 07:46
I had a plateful of veg and some salad as well. Does carrot cake count? It had walnuts on which are healthy nuts.

Magic
22-09-13, 10:12
Well, I have been trying to eat more healthy for a few weeks. Have not lost any
weight:huh:. I have been eating nuts ,almond and walnuts but have had to stop as they are doing my teeth in. So I cannot eat cold stuff or hot food because of sensitivity , so I have to be careful--- soup and readybrek all the way:weep:

Annie0904
22-09-13, 10:14
:D Tessar if my plum cake counts then I guess your carrot cake will have to! Guess what I am making today?...another plum cake :D I made apple crumble last night. I am using brown sugar to make it healthier :D

Tessar
22-09-13, 17:14
I have had salad today a little bit) got plenty more for tea 2nite. Got some fruit as well so I'll probably have had about 3 portions today. I had orange cake, so I guess this MUST qualify alongside apple crumble & plum cake!!??!!
Anyway Annie, what happened to the original plum cake & the apple crumble, who demolished them?

Annie0904
22-09-13, 17:28
Errm the original plum cake...hubby had some, a friend had a piece and my parents had a piece. I think I must have eaten the rest :noangel:

---------- Post added at 17:28 ---------- Previous post was at 17:27 ----------

Oh and hubby and I ate the apple crumble over 2 days but I have made another one :)

AuntieMoosie
22-09-13, 17:48
All this talk of cakes and crumbles has me drooling.......I can only dream of eating such things.........well........................that's until Christmas..........when it's all my rules again!!! :winks:

Today I had a roast dinner and had parsnip, carrots, cauliflower and brussel sprouts with it, so not done too bad today :)

I eat lots of nuts too, not the roasted peanuts, but just plain ready shelled nuts, sometimes with a few raisins :)

Annie0904
22-09-13, 18:33
Auntie Moosie your dinner sounds lovely :)

Em.ma
22-09-13, 18:58

lizzie29
22-09-13, 21:59
I've had 3-4 today - not brill, but could've been worse!

I went to a food festival yesterday and there were so many amazing cakes. I managed to resist :-)

Annie0904
22-09-13, 22:03
Well done for resisting the cakes Lizzie :)

lizzie29
22-09-13, 22:06
It was tough! However, today I went to a chocolate factory, and then my friend gave me some ginger cake she'd made, so not quite as good!

Hi ladies - I just can't stay on the wagon at the moment. Really don't know what's wrong with me. I'm usually very good & motivated at things like this but right now my body is craving certain foods and I need to have them. At the same time I'm just so tired and feeling run down. I am trying to be good but then I ruin it ! So.... another new start for me today. So far so good and I have a training session at 5pm so hoping that gives me a boost. xx

Annie0904
23-09-13, 09:41
Meche I am the same...I know I need to cut out more sugary foods but I don't have the will power..I just seem to crave them. It is also one of the side effects of my meds to crave sugar (Dosulepin)

meche
23-09-13, 09:49
Snap! I was bad yesterday for sugary foods. I had a really healthy breakfast, then went for a walk but in the afternoon ate 2 bars of chocolate ! Then we went to my mums for roast dinner (lots of veg) but then I at a huge slice of chocolate cheesecake! Sugar overload!!! I felt quite sick when I got home and went to bed feeling 2 stone heavier. New start today... again!! xx

Annie0904
23-09-13, 09:52
I am going to try to eat less sugar today. One slice of my plum cake and that is all :)

meche
23-09-13, 10:29
Me too. Although I think I'm over my sugar craving now. I'm putting it down to feeling a bit 'off' these past few days. Been feeling totally weird (quesy, hot, tired). Think I'm having an early menopause! xx

Em.ma
23-09-13, 18:49
Had banana , lettuce, cucumber, sweetcorn, tomatoes, beetroot, peppers today.
Along with two scotch eggs, tuna, cheese, yoghurt, nutri grain bar.

23-09-13, 19:29
Emma I think you've got it covered hun :winks:

Well today I haven't done any of the 5 but I have had porridge this morning and I've just had some ryvitas with marmite and a few walnuts.

I am planning on having another little jig to my 70's music later................and................nooooo.... ........you're not watching me!! :winks:

I haven't eaten much today with getting stressed over my cat and also I have a really sore gum, just below my front bottom teeth. I thought it might be an ulcer but can't see one there.

AuntieMoosie
23-09-13, 20:18
Well done hun, the stir fry is much more healthy :yesyes:

Actually, I wonder if I can eat stir fry whilst on my diet?? I'll have to do some research on that :)

lizzie29
23-09-13, 21:34
I love stir frys. And they're so healthy, bonus!

Unfortunately I also love chocolate...

Em.ma
24-09-13, 18:42
Not eating much today. Small bowl of cherrioes and a banana about 6:30am.
Just eaten chicken kievs, new pots, sweetcorn and broccoli.

Annie0904
24-09-13, 18:44
I have managed 3 portions today.

Walnuts r good for you. A few of those after any fatty meal can stop some of the saturates from sticking to your arteries. Obviously eating shed loads of walnuts doesn't mean you can suddenly stuff in loads if naughties :lac: :noangel:

Jigging.... I wouldn't want an audience either.... I get embarrassed watching myself!!!!

bernie1977
24-09-13, 22:24
I haven't done well today. Banana, apple & broccoli. It's the first time I've not had at least 5 in a long time but it's been a case of can't be bothered to cook and not very hungry

Tessar
25-09-13, 07:42

25-09-13, 15:10
Considering I have a bit of a hangover, I've done really well today. Had scrambled egg on toast for brekkie and a bean salad for lunch followed by grapes. I am struggling though because I'm feeling a bit 'bleughhhh'! Ok - I know having a few drinks last night didn't help but I've been off my food for a few days and forcing myself to eat for the sake of eating. Feeling quesy! Zumba tonight will either cure or kill me!!! xx

AuntieMoosie
26-09-13, 01:56
None of my 5 today

I had a bowl of porridge in the morning and some ryvitas for tea, didn't fancy a lot, I was busy in my laboratory creating :winks:

Tessar
26-09-13, 08:12

meche
26-09-13, 15:52
Good-ish today. Was naughty & didn't manage brekkie because I had to be up and out the door early this morning but did grab a banana and coffee at the course I was on. Had a tuna salad for lunch and having steak and veggies tonight. I know why I've been feeling 'bleugh' and craving certain foods - that monthly event that we all love so much turned up this morning so that explains that! xx

AuntieMoosie
26-09-13, 17:56
Forgive me, for I have sinned

Yesterday evening, I thought I'd have "a few" mixed nuts and raisins...........well..............the "few".......turned out to be................"the lot"

I know that they are good for you, but they are also packed with calories so not good if you're on a weight reducing diet!!!

I'm not getting anymore nuts in now cos I'm just too greedy with them..........I can't just have a few.............I have to keep going :lac: :winks:

None of my 5 yet as I still don't know what I'm having for tea yet

Tessar
26-09-13, 18:37
Oh Michelle, that monthly event causes me so much grief when it comes to cravings!!!! You have my sympathy!
Moosie I did laugh about u eating the lot. I'd b exactly the same!!! I can't have nice things in the house or I just tuck into them.
Been away this week; done loads of walking. Eaten salad every day. The odd treat here & there but for once when on holiday I haven't over eaten. It's a miracle.
Annie: have u been calm & rational at all today?

Annie0904
26-09-13, 19:27
I have been so busy helping my daughter move house today that I haven't had time to think about anything :) I haven't had much time to eat either :(

AuntieMoosie
27-09-13, 03:37
Well I didn't get any of my 5 in yesterday!!

All I had was a bowl of porridge as I was really tired and didn't feel like eating anything to be honest.

Still, on the plus side, I am still eating healthy stuff :)

Annie0904

27-09-13, 17:13
Only had one today so far,
A banana,
I bought a lovely gammon and egg sandwich at lunchtime.
Not to hungry now so it's either toast with cheese or ravioli. Or soup and bread. Then yoghurt and fruit after. Hmm:/ we've not got a lot in.
Choice is:
Pasta with tuna or cheese
Tinned soup n bread
Omlette but had egg earlier so dont want
Sandwiches
Or frozen food and tinned veg.
:/

Tessar
27-09-13, 17:42
If I had 7 a day and the majority of that was fruit, then I would end up with revolting bowels (revolting as in an uprising, although if they rebelled against the fruit then no doubt they would be the other kind of revolting as well!!)
Big salad @lunch. More salad & a bit of fruit 2nite. Lots of walking 2day as well.

Em.ma
27-09-13, 18:25
Had ravioli with grated cheese on toast and a yoghurt after,
Not a great day but didn't want a big meal this evening.

27-09-13, 19:36
I have only managed 3 today. I have been out for a lovely afternoon tea :)

Tessar
27-09-13, 19:52
Yoghurt's healthy emma! I would like to know if a portion of orange cake counts in my 5 a day? If afternoon tea was lovely the that's ok Annie. Lizzie, how was your veg?

Annie0904
27-09-13, 20:00
If my plum cake counts then your orange cake will have to :)

Tessar, orange cake definitely counts!

I had onions, mushrooms, peas and carrots.

Glad my orange cake counted, he he.

lizzie29
27-09-13, 20:36
It was lovely! I've not been feeling too well the past couple of days though, so didn't seem as nice as usual.

I think all cakes with any essence of fruit should count ;-)

Annie0904
27-09-13, 20:42
no not essence...it has to be REAL fruit :D

A cherry is fruit isn't it....

Annie0904
27-09-13, 21:03

Hee hee hee.... I used to eat glacé cherries straight out if the pot!!!!

lizzie29
