For as long as I have known I've had fasting blood sugars of around 85. A few months ago I went on an extreme low carb diet to lose weight. A routine test turned up a fasting glucose of 96, which my doctor said was "a little high." This caused me to do research which shows that low carb dieting makes some people insulin resistant.
So I've bought a meter and been testing myself. The numbers are usually in the 90s but this morning upon waking it was 116! This happened once before and I went to the emergency room straight away. They ran some tests and said I was hyperthyroid. Can being hyperthyroid raise one's glucose? I have been on thyroid meds for years but now they are saying I am taking too much. And now I have suddenly become diabetic? I am afraid to even test myself tomorrow. I'm afraid of what I will see.
