Hello,

I have been prescribed escitalopram by my GP as the side effects of citalopram were affecting my ability to read and study. Even though I was only on 5mg of citalopram, a quarter of a standard dose, it still had a number of negative side effects, which included:
- fatigue
- 'visual snow', shimmering vision
- some mild cognitive issues including brain fog and forgetfulness.

I had similar intolerable side effects when on 25mg of sertraline for a month.

The main question I have is whether anyone here has managed well on escitalopram after having cognitive/visual problems whilst on citalopram? From what I've read, escitalopram has less of an impact on the histamine receptor which I believe is partly responsible for some of the issues I had on citalopram.

Thanks :)

Hi, I have been on both meds and though Escitit did have have side effects for me I found it so much easier to tolerate than Citalopram which was horrific on start up for me personally xxxx

Thanks Karen.

Unfortunately I seem to be experiencing the same visual side effects on escitalopram so looks like this med isn't for me :)
