I have been suffering with panic/anxiety for over 5 years now. I get really bad headaches and have paid to have a MRI scan as I was convinced that I must have a brain tumour etc. Thankfully the results came back as normal.

Unfortunately, I still dont feel 'normal'. My head feels like it is going to explode. I have tension in my neck and shoulders. I have tried relaxation exercises etc, but nothing seems to help. My new anxiety is that the pressure and tension in my head can cause a anerysm/heamorrage. Is this possible? I get myself into such a state and imagine that I will just drop down dead.

I really dont know what to do. I have been to my drs who only want to prescribe anti-depressants - which dont agree with me as I have tried various ones.

Does anyone else ever feel like this, and if so, what do you do to cope?

Thanks

Hi...
Firstly, i do not believe that a "tension" headache can cause anerysm or anything like that. They're not fatal.
I've suffered from tension headaches for 16 years now and it was only earlier on this year when i was finally diagnosed and the consultant told me "I was just one of those people that suffered from frequent stressed related headaches!!". My headaches can last up to 3 - 4 weeks at a time and are at times are agony. Thing with me is that i try NOT to take pills for the pain and IF i do, the doctor told me ONLY to take paracetamol because anything else could possibly make it worse and the pain *will* become resistant.
Don't worry about them, because they are harmless. When i get a "run" of headaches i sometimes find a good shoulder/back rub helps and a nice warm bath.

Hi,

I suffered with tension headaches for almost a year. They are very frighting... You do feel your head is exploading at times, and I often felt narsuras too. They are very dilbilataiting, but harmless. I found the mirgrain strips helped, espically at night. My dr did refear me in the end to a neroligist, of course I was given the all clear. So don't worry, they won't kill you. They are just VERY unpleasent. If your read up on them as I did, they can last many years then just disapear. Sorry Can't spell today!

After that dreadful year with them almost every day, they just stoped. Don't know if it was a result of getting pregnant! baby due any day, so will find out soon. But I have always been a headachy person.

Hi,

I suffered with tension headache, had one, which was 24/7 and last for 3 years, it got me so down.

I had all tests (MRI and lumber puncture) and all was ok.

The specialist I went to see said the headache is so common with anxiety and that he could fill a football stadium with the people who sees with these headaches.
