I noticed last night a painful lump underneath my left armpit. It feels like the size of a pea and is underneath the skin. I've noticed it has been "puss-ing" a white-ish color. The lump protrudes a bit onto the surface of the skin, where the puss is escaping from. When the area is touched or irritated (e.g., moving my arm, etc) - it hurts a bit.

Is this something I should have checked out by a doctor? I've never had anything like this before.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

You should definately go to the doctor just in case, as you will only worry about it if you dont. I had a lump under my armpit last year and it turned out to be because of spraying deoderant too close to it, which irritated the skin!

that sounds like a cyst-i have about 10 under each arm, sometimes one gets infected-you may need antibiotics for it....go see your doctor if it hurts, its probably infected.......nothing to worry about-i have this many times

Could be a cyst or a boil and both are easily treated.

Let the doc see it as you may need anti-biotics to clear it up.

People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget how you made them feel

Hi

I have had a few of these cysts under my arms in the past, they usualy grow under the arm where hair grows, antibiotics should clear them up.

Thanks for the information, everyone.

It seems like such a small lump to see a doctor over, though - from the sounds of things I may be wrong?

Are there any OTC antibiotics that would help clear this up? Or, will it eventually go away on its own? Or should I really see a doctor about this? Again, it's smaller than the size of a pea.

Thanks for anything further - you've all been such a great help.

I have had this before.
Most likely it is a blocked sweat gland, which can be caused by sweating too much or being overweight.

Easiest way to get rid of it is to wait for it to get bigger and then you can "pop" it.
Disgusting I know, but the truth.
