View Full Version : I thought I was going to die - was it panic?

I went to bed fine as normal. About 1230 I woke up and my t-shirt was absolutely soaking wet. I got up to change it went to the loo and suddenly felt very faint. I think that's when the panic kicked in, I got back to bed and couldn't stop shaking and was going hot and cold. My heart felt like it was doing about 200 beats a minute and I've hardly slept. My chest now feels very tight like a band is around it and it feels like I can't breathe.

I'm going off to the docs today, convinced myself I have a heart problem, especially as my dad does. I've never been so scared I really thought I was going to die. I could cheerfully cry at the moment.

Thanks for your messages of support. Have been to the docs, my bp was sky high. She isn't the dr I usually see but she was lovely. She said I could have had a virus that gave me a temperature temporarily hence the sweating and the shaking, but did also say it could have been a PA. She is concerned at my bp especially given my age (27) and I have a home kit to use. The first figure is normal now but the lower one is still too high, averaging 97 as opposed to the recommended 85.

I'm off to see a cardiologist on Weds so might get some info from him.

hi devon guy.oh that must have been scary for you hun!Sounds like you had a temperature and this led on to a panic atttack. Our blood pressure does go up when stressed you know,so dont be too worried about that, try not to let it become an issue if you can.Your Dad has a heart condition you say, wellyou are stressing yourself into believing you do too! When you have seen the cardiologist and he puts your mind at rest.BELIEVE HIM!!My son went thru years of anxiety about his heart,he is perfectly healthy!Well he has health anxiety which is vile in itself.but he now controls it most of the time.Keep talking on here as it will help you,it is so good to share our problems hun.I hope you are feeling loads better today.love mary rose.xxxxxxx
