Hey all,

I'm in a right panic now,

Iv had various sensations for over 12 months now and was worried about having a brain tumour.

In feb I had my serum b12 tested which was high at 720 ng (200-660) and again last month it came out at 880 ng.

The GP wrote to Haematology for advice, and today I got a letter through the post asking me to make an appointment to discuss further investigations.....I'm worried like crazy because I used Dr Google who tells me this is raised in blood disorders such as Leukemia.

I have not taken any supplements which could cause a high b12 level either.

I have already had blood testing for:

FBC including blood film.
CRP
Liver Function
Thyroid

and many more but nothing else shows any abnormality other than my red blood cells being slightly elevated.

I am also on testosterone replacement and this treatment can raise red cells too so that is the most likely reason for that abnormality.

Hi sorry i dont know a great deal about blood tests, but i would not jump to conclusions and scare yourself, there are lots of causes for a lot of medical conditions so the chances of you coming up with the correct diagnosis is minimal, i wish you all the best for your tests blessings

If it was anything serious then I believe they would have been in touch by phone rather than writing to you to make an appointment.

My aunt was at the doc, had blood taken and was in hospital the same day the results came back as she has Leukemia.

Thanks for the replies,

I called up in the end because I would have had to wait for a few weeks to see the GP that sent the letter.

The blood specialist wants me to have a few other blood tests just to be 100% sure there is nothing, I'm more at ease about it at the moment, The dr I talked to said they are just general blood tests like protein, electrolytes (sp?) As I understand b12 does show high in certain blood cancers but usually white cells would also, mine are always normal.

But the Dr wasn't worried at all, he said just make an appointment to have done but its no rush, nothing spectacular going on was his words, which made me laugh.

I'm sure I've had raised B12 before now and it wasn't considered an issue. I think it is one of those things where they have spotted your B12 raised and now just want to do some extra tests to 'be sure' even though 99.99% of the time they know they will find nothing.
