Hi,
I am 35 years old. I have for probably most of my life been an anxious person but only accepted it as a real problem for which I required help recently. Am on Citalopram and seeing a psychologist, officially diagnosed as having generalised anxiety disorder and depression.
I have becoming more and more insular in my life, avoiding going out, meeting new people, shopping, socialising....the list is growing. More recently, my phobic reactions to people and places has taken a new turn. I can't go in to work. I have been signed off for 6 weeks because of this and it is proving to be a real concern as I can't afford not to work, but even thinking about work makes me feel ill. I have a little time to work with, but not much.
I could probably go on for ever in my self obsessed way, but it would be nice to have a site to go to where someone might have an idea what I am going on about.
Thanx

Hi Happyone

Welcome to NMP. I think I could quite easily have written your first paragraph as it is pretty much the same boat I'm in. Like you I tend to avoid stuff and am pretty insular. We are booked out this week at two big concerts and a party at the weekend and I can't say I'm looking forward to any of them!!

There is a lot of good stuff in here in terms of advice and experience...and there are even more great people.

You are not alone.

Try chat, it can be fun and informative......if a little mad (in a nice way...we had a virtual fireworks display last night!!)

Take care

Iain

Hi there and welcome,

Can relate to your feelings. I do go out every day whether it be shopping, just a walk or my therapist! But the most difficult ones are when I am more than say 5 or 10 miles away from my house. I have been invited to a birthday this saturday and am dreading it. I may only stay for a couple of hours, but we shall see how it pans out.

I am aware that we must face these fears to progress, but it can be hard.

I think this site will bring you comfort; you may make some new virtual friends, and possibly meet fellow sufferers for 'real' eventually.

Take Care,

Ray

Helo Happy one!Sorry to hear you are going thru a bad time of it,It is so eay to narrow our boundaries to such an extent that we corner ourselves!Try to not let this rule your life as you are hurtling towards agoraphobia!I only say this as this is what happened to me!After finding this wonderful site however my boundaries are opening out all the time,The encouregment and understanding you will receive here will make so much diffference to you.Hang on in there!Love Mary Rose.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
