Hi

Hope everyone is having a good evening!

I wonder if anyone could help me?

I had a cold about 6 weeks ago and then another 3 weeks ago (thanks to my son coughing over me all night!)

Well, since then, Ive had a dry mouth and throat and sometimes my food has stuck in my throat for about an hour, and then went down. I can drink and eat, even when this happens.

Ive been to the GP and she has given me some antibiotics to finally clear my cold. SHe said if food is still sticking and I still have a dry mouth and throat, that she will send my somewhere so a specialist can see whats going on down there!

Ive Googled, and have convinced myself I have either throat or tongue cancer. :scared15:

Has anyone else ever has this?

Thank you

I am pretty sure Fishmanpa will be along in a minute to tell you that this doesn't seem in any way indicative of throat cancer. :)

Lizzie hon - you had a cold and then another one. That is the answer for your symptoms.

Like CP, I'm expecting Fishmanpa along any minute. Listen to him, for he is the Oracle (for real)

Hello

Thank you for your super quick reply. :hugs:

I am really concerned as my GP sounded quite concerned about the food sticking. I just thought it would stick as there wasnt any saliva to help it down!

I do get acid too and she has given me some tablets.

Why would I suddenly get a lack of saliva after having a cold?

This is driving me mad. Im so obsessed now with my swallowing. Ive tried a test I saw on Google. Dry your bottom lip, and hold onto it . It should be covered in saliva after 30 seconds. Well, as you can imagine, mine is still bone dry!

Kind Regards x

Hello
Ive tried a test I saw on Google.

Stop googling. You'll soon find that there's this whole host of other nasties if you continue.

The Oracle eh? :)

Nah... just had oral cancer is all.... (oropharyngeal) I have swallowing issues as a result and it's due to dryness and lack of saliva. I have to drink with just about every bite of food.

In the vast majority of cases OC (throat cancer) doesn't present the way you describe. It's typically painless and symptom-less until it's far along. You don't just suddenly have symptoms one day like you did. You would probably have other symptoms before you'd feel anything in your throat. This is most likely a result of two colds back to back and some residual infection and mucous buildup.

I'm not a doctor but I advise you to listen to yours and stay away from Dr. Google. Did you know he's in the middle of a huge malpractice case involving false diagnosis and causing undue stress? ;)

Good Luck!

Thank you for your super quick reply.

I wonder though, why would she send me to a ENT doctor?

Normally you have to push to get referred, but she said she would refer when I go back to see her, just like that!

Driving me mad!

Kind Regards

Because she's a good doctor doing her job. If this doesn't resolve, get the referral. Perfectly logical next step.

I often have a dry mouth and throat, I put it down to anxiety symptoms. Let me no how you get on xx

The last episode of anxiety I had the symptom that most bothered me was that I felt I had a lump in my throat. I too was convinced it was something bad. I was that worried I paid to see a specialist ! Funnily enough nothing was found and it turns out was just a symptom of my anxiety which faded over time. I think its best that you follow your doctors advice but I hope I have reassured you. Unfortunately My anxiety is back and I have other symptoms Im struggling with. Oh the joys of anxiety !

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I feel overwhelmed with your support.

I must admit, i have not used this website for some time as my anxiety was "under control".

It's such a relief that this website accepts everyone and that their problems can be voiced.

Kind Regards

Liz x
