I am fine one minute, then my throat gets tight for no reason and although I know its really only anxiety, I am terrified I will swallow my tongue and choke.

Is that actually possible?

I am really annoyed with myself as have been doing really well since I found this website!

I too am suffering with this particular symtom at the mo. It seems like I go from one thing to the next and each one is worse than the last. Sometimes mine feels like its down in my chest, others the tightening feeling in my throat. Try not to worry although believe me I know thats harder to do than say.

No that cant happen, i had this problem for 6 months last year and basically the more you worry about it the more you feel the uncomfortable feeling. I felt my tounge was huge.

It will pass like everything else.

Hi Carla,

I've had this too. It does pass.

I know it's hard but try not to worry and try to distract yourself with something else when you get those feelings.

Hi Carla,

I had the same exact thing yesterday. My son had to go in for surgery and I was so upset! It felt so horrible. I hope you feel better hun, it does go away.

I am so glad to have someone to talk to who goes through the same thigns I do.

Hi Carla

Tightness in my throat is always one of my first symptoms. Even when I don't realise I'm anxious, my throat and my chest can get very tight. Now I recognise this and try to consciously relax. I find a breathing exercise usually helps, and also takes your mind off your throat a bit as the tightness will gradually ease. You feel like not talking but if there's someone to talk to then do, or if you're alone sing with the radio. These things make you use your muscles and help ease the tension a bit.

Its what I should be doing now as I'm tense as hell! I'll just put some music on...:)

Very common and the only cure is to ignore it I am afraid.

You could ask to be referred to an ENT specialist so he can take a closer look but it can take a few months for a referral.

I have had problems with my throat since June 2005 and it is no better yet.

:Dthank you thank you, it is still there but I do feel a bit better.
Grrr. The mind is so powerful isn't it? Its like I have an Angel on one shoulder and a Devil on the other, the Angel is saying "Yes, we know its only a panic attack symptom, we dont care..." But then the Devil starts saying "Ahhh...but what if you stop breathing? What if you swallow your tongue and slowly choke to death?"
I swear some days if I didnt get the throat thing I WOULD BE FINE!!!

Anyway, a bit of mental rambling there.[:I] Thanks to all! [:X][:X][:X]
