So here we have another coping skill that allows you with a minimum of effort to function.

Not good enough. Been there and didn't like the attitude I needed to not care. It carries over to where it doesn't belong. Acceptance is fine but why should I accept something that doesn't belong when I can remove it instead.

New Techniques and therapy are replacing the panic thoughts so you have nothing you need to accept. And new tools like the fMRI are showing it works.

This has only happened in the last ten years yet has made it onto the internet. You just have to know what to look for.

I'm sorry if I'm insulting Clare Weeks but she is outdated. There is a better way. Ten years just is not enough time though to get it out to the public.

Well, neuroplasticity was only proved in humans in 1998, after Claire Weekes had already passed away. So, I think things have moved on a bit now as more science has become involved to prove the changes in the brain, what is firing and when, etc.

Some people seem to prefer the acceptance based approach but Weekes did at least offer more than that alone. I would question how useful it is with OCD though as even now some forms of that e.g. Sensorimotor, Somatoform, etc are still largely unknowns.

I'm not blaming her, she did well with limited information. Times change. There is more based of fact than trial and error. There are things guaranteed to work because the mind can use them. Attitude does interfere though.

we cannot divulge why any previous member has been banned from the forum.

We can say that we do not take banning people lightly and for someone to be banned we have to have deemed their behaviour to be rulebreaking and detrimental to the welfare of the forum

Unfortunately we can not take the fact that the member was friends with people on the forum before banning them.

Davit said in his posts that he would keep in touch with members from here so maybe you could email him.

I assumed it was his final post which I'm sure he knew was going to mean a ban:

http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=167464&page=9

There were events leading up to that which I believe made his decision to head back to the other site.

Obviously, I can't say publicly as it will just start up again as it keeps doing.

Claire Weekes outdated, really? I just finished reading Hope and Help for your Nerves and started More Help for Your Nerves and this is the first time I've felt any hope of beating this. She explains things so simply and it makes perfect sense. I can actually apply what she's saying- my nerves were even more shot thinking I'm seriously ill and she is not that kind of alarmist. Her advice has helped stop me overreacting to my symptoms and she has explained my condition better than anything I've ever read and is more helpful/reassuring than my psychologist. Yes the books are old and very 80s looking but they are brilliant! Anyone else benefited from her stuff?

I've been using Claire Weekes books since 2003..the basic method appeals to me, also the way she explains things. Her books, and Michael Neill's Feel Happy Now, (not for everyone, mind) are the main two that stick in my mind when I'm Off On One xxx

Some of what Claire Weekes say *seems* outdated - she talks about "tonics", which sounds pretty old-school, and back then agoraphobia and mental health in general were not really well understood. Also, agoraphobia is not the cause of everyone's anxiety, it's a result of it.

Pretty much everything she says is spot on though. Her insight is rare and leaves modern "specialists" floundering helplessly. Claire Weekes was the first person who ever gave me hope. The journey I've been on, and the Citalopram Guide, began with that hope. It's the same for a lot of people on NMP.

Claire Weekes is basically the God-Emperor.

I still have the books I bought in the 80s, god i'm old, and they really brought me comfort knowing that at last, somebody really understood what we were going through. I still dip into them on a bad day.

She was my Yoda and I can still feel the force :D

Claire Weekes is an anxiety God, and her first two books "Hope and Help for Your Nerves" and "Peace from Nervous Suffering" are absolutely ESSENTIAL for anyone with panic/anxiety. She helped me recover from panic attacks back in 2011.
