Is this an anxiety symptom I'm aware of my heart pounding

Definitely! It's a major one. The more you pay attention to it, the more you'll feel like it's pounding, making you more anxious (and so the cycle continues!). Has sent me into a panic attack on many occasions. I get over it now by telling myself that it's just the anxiety, and it'll go away soon :)
