View Full Version : Asking for specific blood tests?

Hello,

I am interested in getting a couple of specific blood tests done - they are B12/folate and ferritin levels. I feel that some of my issues could potentially be related to abnormal levels of each. Equally, it could be simply anxiety, but at least I'd be able to rule something else out.

Does anyone know if the GP would be happy to run these tests if I asked? I've had a full blood count and had levels of hormones checked in the past which was fine, and the GP was happy to do that.

Hi Depends on the GP really, I was desperate to have my B12 levels checked and one GP told me it was unnecessary but another did it straight away.

Forgot to mention I wanted my B12 levels checked for weird burning sensations in feet . They were normal and my problems were put down to anxiety.

Same here, 1 GP said no and the other printed the form there and then.

If 1 says no, try and see another if poss. It seems the better they know us the less they want to reassure us properly!

I wish they could test your blood for everything in one go, alternatively. Every single thing then it would all be done and we'd know what we are lacking and what we have contracted! Although perhaps they would need about a pint of blood for that...
