View Full Version : Citalopram and alcohol

Morning all,

I'm on 40mg of Citalopram a day and enjoy a couple of glasses of white wine every lunchtime and maybe another couple in the evening.

I never have a hangover and sleep well (I reckon I'm one of the lucky ones on Citalopram who do?)

An added benefit I've found is that going to the pub at lunchtime for an hour gets me away from my desk and into social situations. I chat to a group of pensioners about their wartime experiences, grandkids, football, photography, politics - generally we put the world to rights!

I don't think I'd have managed to get this far into the Autumn without a combination of Citalopram, Chardonnay and Cameraderie!

Anyone else manage OK on this combination or do you find the bevvy interferes with the medication?

Happiness and light to you all,
'Chopper'

I saw her once, one little while, and then no more:
’Twas Eden’s light on Earth a while, and then no more.
Amid the throng she passed along the meadow-floor:
Spring seemed to smile on Earth awhile, and then no more;
But whence she came, which way she went, what garb she wore
I noted not; I gazed a while, and then no more!

Hi there,

i was only on 10mg citroplram but never really had a problem with alcohol - sometimes it heightened the effect but that could have just been because i was tired.
I think its just a case of being sensible,

If it's working and it's OK for you carry on.

Like a response to your other post, I've actually gone off the pop and that for me is a great shame as I enjoy fine wines and real beers...I hadreached a point where I didn't need to get pissed everytime alchohol was on offer!!

Only possible advice might be try a Sauvignion Blanc or a Voigner for a change occasionally.

erm....Cheers

Hi Chopper,I only drink on accasions and I found when I drank with citalopram it made my anxiety worse.drink can also stop the meds doing there job properly. But I suppose its up to each person to do there own thing in the end.I love listening to pensioners story's.

Morning all,

I'm thinking about doing some first-person research into this[:P]:

Monday - Chardonnay & 40mg
Tuesday - Verdiccio & 40mg
Wednesday - Pino Grigio & 40mg
Thursday - Sauvignon Blanc & 40mg
Friday - Chablis & 40mg
Saturday - Cava & 40mg
Sunday - Chenin Blanc & 40mg

Lets see what, if any differences we discover?[^] I'll try and keep the study scientific, maintain the same citalopram dosage and the same number of bottles of vino!:D

Morning all,

The 'vino diet' is working well, weight going in the right direction, anxiety being kept at bay (just!).

No alcohol related problems to report, so Citalopram and booze can go together with no ill efects.

Chelsea -v- Levski Sophia tonight ........ what wine goes with Champions League matches?:D

Just like food, you've got to select the right wine, something like Frank Lampard I think ..... generally smooth with a bit of a kick![^]
