Hello! I was diagnosed roughly 8 years ago with GAD and I was thankful for that, forr I had feared it was a brain tumour or some cancer....what iffing before even knowing!!
Regardless, my gp prescribed me Paxil and the stuff worked like a dream up until roughly 6 months ago. Out of the blue just sheer and utter panic. Since then they have become regular, not quite predicatable, but they are there. Today for instance, standing in line @ the bank....I thought I was going to faint, got terrorized by my own thoughts and had to get out. I stayed but the walk back to the office was a complete haze. I just wanted to introduce myself as google pointed me to this forum. It's great to see so many with similar complaints...sadly it is reassuring. So, from Canada I say a big hello to all fellow anxiety/panic disorder posters.

Hi Billy

Welcome to the site..
I too have the same problem..I have been on Seroxat (Paxil in your country) for 10 yrs with not many problems...suddenly 6 weeks ago I had massive anxiety attacks...GP put the dose up and was ok for 2 weeks them BAM back down again...so off work with terrible anxiety with no clues as to whats going on
Perhaps its a meds thing

Mooks- Sounds like a all too familiar state of affairs here. My dosage was upped and it kept me together for roughly 2-3 weeks. I went back and saw my gp again and we decided it was time to try another direction. He suggested Celexa which is another SSRI to ease through the transition. Its been what? 5 days and so far nothing major to report. I've read the books, got the tapes, invested 400$ in a program,,,,hmmm very frustrating stuff. I am committed however to not having this run my life and this forum seems to be a great place to be able to talk without co-workers, family and friends becoming overly involved!

sounds familiar...My Doc says drug cant 'poop' out..is reluctant to swap ssri as withdraw effect of Paxil is bad ( its is ive tried it before)

So whats the plan...Im right peed off as Im of work and pacing around like a right wierdo agian...
let me know how you get on we can compare recoveries

My understanding here from the phramacist- (chemist in the UK?)
is that the transition would be next to nothing and thus far I have to agree. Days 1 and 2 were a little cloudy, but overall the switch has been going well. According to the pharmacist the 2 are very similar and that they essentially have the same functions. My gp mentioned that sometimes our bodies develop a tolerance to the drug and that after 8-9 years with Paxil, the Paxil CR it was time to try something new.

Hi Mike,

Welcome to NMP. As you are finding out there is loads of help, advice and support in here. People are very friendly and willing to give time to fellow sufferers.

There are one or two Cannucks in here so look out for them, we could end up with a 24/7 chatroom in operation which will benefit everyone.

Cheers
