Hello

Having got quite severe back issues, as well as anxiety and depression, I went this morning for my ATOS medical.

Whilst it would be nice to get a feel for how the medical went it was pretty clinical, abrupt and rather dismissive of the stacks of information that I brought.

All the surgeons letters outlining the procedures done on my back etc were ignored and the copies that I had provided were not wanted.

The only copy that they did keep was my latest assessment since I had started CBT earlier this year (the counsellor using a form of ABT to help support me with both chronic and acute pain management).
The self guided help sessions assessment letter was ignored, this I had prior to the CBT sessions.

The person doing the assessment seemed quite disinterested with most of what I had to say and seemed quite pleased that I was able to sit down and squeeze something she handed to me and raise my arms above my head. Regardless of me telling her of the issues that I had in maintaining a seated position this did not seem to concern her.

She did say that they would now write to my doctor before contacting me with their decision in three weeks time.

My wife was with me at the time of the assessment.

Now to wait...

Best wishes to all of you going through this rather dire and stressful process.

No one should be made to feel ill at ease in these difficult situations.
It's bad enough having to go through it without feeling dismissed and
dis believed. Everyone case is different and we all deserve a voice
and to be listened to. I feel we are stereotyped as 'chancers' who are
trying to cheat the system and I do completely understand there is
people out there who do do this but they shouldn't tar everyone with
the same brush. I hope when they contact your GP, they can see that
you have been completely honest. Good luck hun. xx
